    Shake, Rattle and Blow

Would definite have been if we hadn't fixed the clearance. :-) Dome, doom... in this case it's all "VERY CLOSE" to the same.

    Shake, Rattle and Blow

Help... blub, blub, blub. (It's getting a little deep.) (:-) I'm working on reassembling an FJ40 2F 214020. Was supposed to be in really premo condition. NNOOOOTTTTT! (Apparently along with that bridge I must own a big chunk of by now in Brookland.) Pulled the pan to check the babbit...

2F Block - F Head: Piston clearance and compression

Andrewfarmer: Excuse the neewie question, but I have a 60032 casting number "F" head and am wondering what you mean by 1.5F? (In between model that fits both?)

2F Block - F Head: Piston clearance and compression

Thanks for responding D'Animal, Mace and Pighead. D'Animal - That's my head as far as I can see. Nice picture. Pighead - I'm an idiot! Finally found the "F" - right there staring at me, just as big as you please. Kept looking for a long serial number in digits or stamped on a boss...

    Domed pistons

Why grind the pistons? I don't know much about such things but one would think the pistons are thin (moving part) and plenty of space on the head. Why grind the pistons and how much did you have to take off? Do you know the head number?

2F Block - F Head: Piston clearance and compression

I thought it was supposed to be an F head but it has extra holes (more than the F gasket we got for the old head). It says 60032 which seems like a 2F number and it has a narrow race track shaped top to cylinder. Where do I look for the extra oil hole and is there one on the top, too?

    Domed pistons

How much do domed 2F pistons with a narrow combustion chamber on a F head raise compression - assuming I've cut .040" deep 45 degree chamfer on each cylinder from the head? (for details see 2F Block - F Head: Piston clearance and compression).

2F Block - F Head: Piston clearance and compression

Problem #0, OK, I'm a newbee... shade tree mechanic on a good day ...but I'm trying to do this right, so here goes. Story: I'm helping a friend do a '77 FJ-40 rebuild and have got a 2F 214020 block and a 60032 head - which I'm guessing was a 2F open. (By the number 60031 = "open", but looks...

    MIG welding questions...

One trick I've learned with MIG: Learning the effects of settings / getting the right adjustments - if you have a friend to help - select one heat, let them draw an arc and you turn the wire feed speed. Start low, click, click, click until it's too high - then back off. With a second mask you...

    Sandblasting question

Let's get down to the nitty gritty, did the home blasters cause problems with the sheet metal... lots of prime, sand, re-prime, to smooth it back out? If no/or/so, with what for media and pressure?

    Sheet Metal Question

Oh, BTW, a sincere heartfelt thanks for your service to our country. We all have to not listen to the news and remember how important good people helping each other is... As to sheetmetal, I'm going to totally avoid aluminum, lots of bad things happen in winter's ville salt bath. We're in...

    Sheet Metal Question

'78 FJ40 rebuild question for the experienced body work folk: How much problems do you have with wire-welder patched in steel? As in cut the replaced fender (accident) and use it for patch. That is, does wire welder's -6 wire cause any dissimilar metals corrosion or heat/temper hardened flex...
