It’s been a while since I did this job, but can’t you also remove the bolts that hold the guards to the brackets? I vaguely remember thinking that a lot of the instructions had you removing more than what was necessary. It’s been so long since I’ve had the guards, I probably shouldn’t even post.

Do you have FSM. There should Be an electrical troubleshooting guide for the switch and the Suspension ECU. Possibly you have some connector between the ECU and the switch that has come disconnected. The ECU itself is behind the panel on the rear left side.

Also, if you catch a parts sale, I think the driveshaft is under $500 shipped to just order an whole new one.

Yes, the fronts are not connected to the rears. The rears aren't always connected but can be.
