To my great annoyance the new OEM blower resistor burned through after less then one year. It is the "low speed cool". Can anybody tell me what the reason could be?

Check the fusible link section on the wiring diagram near the batteries and follow the lines.

I did some searching on the internet and I think I found it under number 87138-90A00 as a DENSO part. Advantage: my replacement parts were only $6,- total and gave extra fun in repairing it.
