I'm speculating that minute (microscopic) debris would be evident in the fluid.
But on the flip side, watch out for "search/find syndrome" leading to "if it ain't broke..." :doh:
It sure can live forever, and I'm all for monitoring your T's and P's (temps and pressures) but there's a fine line between monitoring and paranoia though.....The Toyota temp and oil pressure gauges throughout history, in my experience, really...

new gas cap solved that for me. 4 to 5 years no issues. 'course the temp rarly rise above 85 here in coastal SoCal.

also, do not top off on refills. depend on the autostop filler function to stop gas fill.
reason: apparently, overfilled fluid will back fill to the canister, saturating the charcoal in gas and causing malfunction. that's the way i understand it.
