Clueless on diesels considering a bj

The B series engine is a 4 cylinder (used mostly in light commercial trucks in the 1970's) later replaced by the 6 cylinder H and 2H in the 40 series. Very economical , high mileage and simple compared to modern diesels but nowhere near as powerful (or fast) as the 2F engine was until Toyota...

    Security options

Anyone tried something like this? Covers the entire steering when fitted. Steering can't be turned and has a decent locking system. Would be difficult to cut through but is bulky and heavy. They come in yellow as well.

    1982 fj40 seat question

The LX models (in Australia at least) has cloth but in zebra stripes with a drivers bucket and bench with metal backs (same in back as they were sold as a 6 seater). Also has 16 inch chrome plated wheels and 3 front wipers. The head rests look correct as does the seat adjustments. The cloth may...

‘78 FJ40, undercoating from the factory?

My 1978 has the same body colour (beige) under the wheel arches/guards. Never been resprayed. The black spray seems to be a later addition.

    78 FJ40 2F engine Ignitor

Pertronix Electronic Ignition KIT & COIL PACK: for a Landcruiser 2F & 3F. I had mechanic recommend and install. Replaces the igniter and costs less than a replacement one. Seems a common conversion on this site. Since you are in Australia try Pertronix Performance Ignition Products -...

    78 FJ40 2F engine Ignitor

I found it cheaper to go to electronic ignition and remove the stock igniter completely. There is also a performance improvement.

    FJ40 Engine Bay Temps

Yes - while mine was sold in Bairnsdale ,Victoria it was a Theiss NSW delivery so had the anti-pollution gear on it. Looks like there were no Commonwealth rules then. Some U.S. States had the same set up. If you look at most Australian parts websites (Ryco etc) you will not fine the oval...

    FJ40 Engine Bay Temps

Also in Melbourne. You have done an excellent build. Rarely see a late model soft tops (at least not heavily modified). My 1978 2F quickly gets to the one third mark and stays there. It has always done this. In late January on a 40 degree C day, after a few hours highway run it crept up to half...

Best way to clean and sort used bolts.

Many bolts I remove are so worn I am happy that they were able to be removed without breaking, Wouldn't trust to reuse them. The thermostat housing bolts were about half the thickness in the middle so replaced.

Stock rims offered on 1979 FJ40?

Different markets varied - Australian 40/45/47 series petrol or diesel of this era all had the gray split steel rims without hubcaps except for the LX model 40. My 1978 had a wheel swap after a few years for the LX chrome wheels. The white rims were a popular replacement for a wider wheel on...

All my Dual/Aux Gas Tank-ers I need some wiring understanding

I have 1978 with a tank under each seat, (stock tank and a 40 litre secondary) installed 40 years ago. A small switch on the dash to switch between tanks. The valve is visible below where the drivers and bench seat meet. There is a very faint click when using the switch. I still run the...

    4 row aluminum radiator for 73 FJ40 1F

Based on past threads you will get why not buy OEM copper which are more expensive but guaranteed to fit and last. From the image the outlet for the overflow seems to be facing the wrong direction and seems to have a more modern style of cap. In similar threads below there have been attempts to...

    Buying a Clutch Disc Kit

Depends on how hard you drive. Happy with my Excedy Safari HD clutch kit. The original one went 40 years. You quickly get used to the heavier pedal feel. Changing the clutch isn't a small job so I would go for quality. You may want to consider changing the rear main seal and the rubber cover...

    FJ40 coolant flush

I was advised it is better to remove the bottom radiator hose then the petcock on the radiator as these can get stuck or fail to reseal. Particularly if dirty or the radiator is old. As has been mentioned the plug on the block will also drain a lot of coolant.
