Have to say very interesting, I guess using apps in android devices and scangauge II etc maybe a bit over the top, when I can just buy additional gauges for all the sensors etc. like the water temp as the 80 series Landcruiser temp gauge is crap in completely inaccurate

No Australia :/ I already bought the scanguage II whilst getting engine rebuild thinking it was def ODBII based on everything I have read

Many years have passed, I have just read this as I'm wanting to do similar. I have a 96 1FZFE that is ODB1 manual and want it ODBII mostly for the scanguage II I didn't know it was so old this thread and just reading this is doing my head in. Does anyone know what happened if successful etc?

This is still bothering me, I should be able to get an ODBII Australian complaint computer for 80 series even 97 model when they did start in Australia and worst case the entire wiring harness to go with it. Is there any engine differences at all? Manual gearbox Sorry to revisit this again...

Oh then occasionally like tonight when I got home it works again. the alarm will lock the key will work again and when it starts to not work again, it will be alarm first then later at some point in time the key in door activation of alarm won't work. Unlocking always remains unaffected .

Thanks, I really didn't think there would be that much difference, honestly thought the motors would be exactly the same, was thinking computer and part of the harness just for the ODB2 connector would do it. I have a manual gearbox, don't know if that would make a difference on that part...

thank you Linus, I think the big question here now is there any difference between a motor 4.5L designed for ODB1 and the same motor that is designed for ODB2 computer. I've looked at both and I can't find a single thing different. Can anyone confirm this or know if there is something...

yes I probably should have, however I did specifically specify that my 80 series is only ODB1 and wanted to know if it is possible to make it ODB2 compliant, I can't see any difference the the motors at all, so I'm assuming that it must be only the computer it self and possibly the wiring...
