When someone says “Heritage Addition” for something other than a 2021 URJ200…

Nope. No such thing **ever** from Toyota for the 80 series.

At least 3 of us from GCLC will be there, and I can bring our club Baofeng UV5R radios pre-programmed. Let me know.

Very unlikely that the ECU is at fault here. Looking through the EWD and FSM, the only reference I see for HAC is that error code. I see no pins referencing that on the ECU pinout, the ECU schematic, or anywhere else in the FSM or EWD...

It's a lightbulb. Is the gauge fuse good? Are you getting B+ to one side of the bulb and ground to the other? Pin 19 should be logic low when the CC switch is on.

My entire cooling system has been replaced including a modified blue clutch. Every part, every hose. I don't have any overheating issues but I did notice average temps dropped after reinstalling the radiator guard. Mr T designed it to help...

I looked over some things while it was warming up. It looks like there may be fluid leaking from the differential. I'll try and figure out where that is coming from exactly to see what I need to fix. I'll double-check the torque on the...

Also keep in mind that some of the basic mechanicals in the FSM goes as far back as the 1958 FJ40. This is where the "fish scale" nonsense originated. Personally, I use the 25 ft/lb inner and 47 ft/lb outer. Either way, significantly tighter than...

Please change all the belts and hoses. Rubber parts don't owe you anything more after 33 years. It will leave you stranded.

$1400 for rust bucket + -$1000 cooling system overhaul -$100 new belts -$200 new tune up kit (plugs/wires, filter. cap, rotor) -$300 new alternator -$300 new battery -$300 knuckle rebuilt -$200 new starter -$2000 all new brake system -$2000 new...

Helps with engine cooling and prevents crap from getting where it shouldn't. Don't leave home without it.

Agreed. The right way is the right way. I saturated the internals with Fluid Film. Works pretty well for what it is. Still miss ARBs.

Reality is this isn't a brake job. You need everything because you bought a Michigan rust bucket that is covered in algae from sitting because someone already gave up. You might want to throw a new booster, master cylinder, and LSPV in. An 80...

You'll also need all new bolts which should be available from Toyota, plan ahead and order those with the parts list above. Definitely try to find some local Cruiser-heads to help you with the project as they'll bring their experience and tools...

Also, you can bend up you own lines for very low cost. It’s so easy a girl can do it!…just kidding about that, but a YouTube tutorial and simple tools can get it done. I help bend up and replace the brake hard lines on my ‘75 Fj40 restoration...

IIRC, the cover just comes off and the rotating assembly stays put. It's been several years, but I don't recall this being difficult. I think there's a gasket for the cover that you want to be careful with. If you're still uncomfortable, then...

Have you gone through the tests in the FSM on pages FI-37/FI-77?

See the picture below from the FSM. Remove the 3 bolts (RED) and gear cover. Hit the internals with some lightweight spray grease. Remove the electrical connectors and spray them out with some WD40 followed with compressed air. Jack up one rear...

Another likely issue is a torn intake plenum. The OBD1 FZJ uses similar fuel pump logic to the 3FE. When the engine shifts on the mounts it could open up the split in the plenum and cause the flap in the AFM to close, shutting down the fuel pump...

The Toyota factory service manual (FSM) and electronic wiring diagram (EWD) are invaluable resources for every single system on the vehicle. If you plan to do any work yourself, they are must haves. Download from the resources section. Go to...

The common cause is the rubber "filler channel" that sits on the bottom of the glass and fits into the guide channel. After 29 years, that rubber, and all the rest of the rubber bits on your truck, don't owe you anything more. What happened is...

Again, please download the Toyota FSM and EWD. Why would disconnecting the coil output to the distributor rotor cause any issue whatsoever? How would this effect ignition timing??? You said you didn't adjust ignition timing and that the engine...
  • jonheld
OK, that's good. So ignition timing was not disturbed. The distributor does not get "power". There is no +12 running to the distributor. Only the ignition coil and igniter get +12. Please download the Toyota FSM and EWD for your truck from the...
