1995 HZJ75 Troopy Engine swap options

Thirty-five-inch tires on a 70? Eighteen-inch wheels? Whyyyy? Why try to make it something it's not? That's what Wranglers are for. You have a vehicle with a hugely under-stressed drivetrain; that's how Land Cruisers built the reputation they have.

    Recovery Points for FJ40?

Stout Equipment rear bumper/carrier (sadly no longer made) with welded shackle mounts.

    Recovery Points for FJ40?

Personally it depends on what I'm doing with them. For a simple non-kinetic tow they're perfectly adequate, and fast. For a heavier pull I use the welded shackle mounts.

    Recovery Points for FJ40?

If it helps for peace of mind, you can buy rated recovery hooks for the FJ40, see here. You could also consider Dixon-Bate tow jaws, here.

Body mounts poly vs rubber? Casting poly?

I think polyurethane body mounts are way oversold. Rubber has better vibration damping characteristics. If rubber body mounts only last 10 years compared to 20 for poly, so what? They're not a big deal to replace.

    A question for electrical experts

I thought I would resurrect this thread for anyone who might have the same issue. The solution turned out to be quite simple with help from a wiring diagram downloaded from Cruiser Cult, from a hard copy donated by Matt Hickey (thanks!). It turns out the power feed to both the horn and...

    Terrain Tamer Parabolic Springs

I'm in the process of setting up the process, if that makes sense. I want to record as objectively as possible the differences in ride quality, ride height, compliance, etc. I'll be using video as well. You can be sure I'll announce here when I publish the review!

FJ40 AC Unit that doesn't require removal of OEM heater box

I have what I believe is the fan unit from a factory AC installation on later FJ40s. I've seen them for sale for silly money.

    Terrain Tamer Parabolic Springs

Ha! That's my job. We can assume Terrain Tamer valves their own twin-tube, nitrogen-charged shocks accordingly. The above-mentioned Rancho 9000s, with (rebound only I think?) adjustability. The ultimate might be the OME BP51 internal-bypass shock, with both rebound and compression adjustment...

    Terrain Tamer Parabolic Springs

Yes. It's both the lack of interleaf friction and the reduced internal friction of parabolic springs that benefit from a slightly firmer shock.

Bilsteins are definitely on the stiff (i.e. "sporty") side of damping. Since parabolics generally benefit from slightly firmer damping, I suspect they'd work just fine.

    Terrain Tamer Parabolic Springs

Certainly. However, many things have changed in the last 20 years. Values of 40-Series vehicles have shot skyward, with the result that more are being restored or just properly maintained. So the market for accessories and modifications is exponentially larger. Also, Terrain Tamer is a...

    Terrain Tamer Parabolic Springs

In terms of personal experience with TT shocks . . . no. Everything I have heard from friends in Oz indicates they are on a level with OME. The kit they sent me was shipped to my personal address via DHL.

    Terrain Tamer Parabolic Springs

Thanks for signing up! Yes, Terrain Tamer ships directly to the U.S. You can order from their Australian website and have it delivered to your address. Obviously DHL shipping is pretty expensive (but fast!); however, the exchange rate is so favorable right now that the parabolic kit is a good...

    Terrain Tamer Parabolic Springs

I did get a reply from Terrain Tamer. It does appear that a multiple order could save on shipping.
