    Trouble starting

Haven't had time to throw the rebuild on there yet... starting the rig was in a mad dash to get some antifreeze in the system before the big chill hits.

    Trouble starting

Yep.. though started better before flush :). Keep in mind, it hasn't been started for ~ 3 weeks.. and the cold is setting in. Haven't done anything under the hood... Battery is brand new.

    Trouble starting

9/69 .. still orig carb. While *attempting* final coolant flush before winter, I had a hell of a time getting the 40 to start. Once I get combustion, the engine would "sieze" before turning over fully. The starter wouldn't turn it any further.. like the engine was fighting it. I'd release...

    Fusible Link?

    Yup.

    Battery Charging ???

wire table (end of page) If I'm not mistaken, maxi fuses top out at 80 amps.. 6 guage will easily push 200 amps. If you're fusing battery leads, check out the "mega" fuses offered by Waytek, et al. Stop asking what gauge wire to use :).. It's application specific. Determine max load and...

    Fusible Link?

No.. a fusible link is a "tail".. as s79 stated.. very short. I've yet to see a link or a mains fuse in any of the OEM wiring schematics. Sounds like time to break out the multimeter.

That guy has balls. First he makes off with your fenders and now he's after your new tires!

    Battery Charging ???

Dan, the fact that you're even *thinking* of running 4 gauge from the alternator makes me nervous (complete overkill). Seems like you're grasping at straws. Though I am glad you're asking here before you put you and your rig at risk :) . Wire gauge depends on your peak alternator output...

??? About Cleaning an Axle Housing

Might sound silly.. but a benchtop grinder w/ wire wheel will work well. I clean a lot of rusty parts with it.. did my brake and clutch pedals, column bezel, ebrake assm, etc. yesterday (yes I'm in hydraulic fluid hell!).

??? About Cleaning an Axle Housing

Gloves and some scotch brite pads? Maybe a dash of Ospho? It's just surface rust right? If you want a "powered", chem free solution.. die grinder + 2-3" med scotch brite rolok or a wire wheel (don't buy the cheapo VA ones! Rated < 5K RPM). Of course, you won't make it very far into the...

    Alt to battery wire?

Battery is charged via "B" stud on alternator (white/lavender).. goes up through the ammeter in the cluster panel and back to the battery (white). The fuse panel and ignition switch are also fed by the white/lavender before the ammeter (to show the "load"). Walk your multimeter up the chain...

    GPS--which one? Mounting ideas?

Garmin Legend is what I have.. bought for Geocaching. After adding topo maps to it, it's very useful when roaming forestry roads. Color makes a huge diff if you're using the maps.
