Only time I saw something like this was someone bled the brakes with, as it turns out, diesel fuel that was in a brake fluid can …. Swelled up all the seals and locked up the brakes. Dumb stuff happens.
i had variance in this area due to incorporating salvaged rear upper quarter panels. Mostly mine

This is probably a big part of your issue... it sounds like you are using your timing light wrong.
Your timing light has do idea what the actual TDC of your engine is, it flashed based on the actual pulse from the distributor, not based on TDC...
Steady progress. I'm going to have to re-spray the hood, windshield and side-steps. Just not right. Enough electrical installed to theoretically turn over with the key but something is amiss.
That rubbing block on the point set looks bone dry (no lube), probably don’t have much of a point gap. A new set of points, a little lube, and a new pair of point ajustment screws wouldn’t hurt the cause.
