    Bubble in fuel filter

vacuum leak? your carburetor is an "improved" 4160 which just means different non-adjustable float. The idle mixture screws are on both sides of the metering block. The problem i have run into is the adapter plate tends to leak if you use the wrong gaskets, and if the plate doesn't direct the...

    Holley vs. Quadrajet ??

IMO adapter plates suck on dual plane manifolds unless you get the ones with 4 separate holes. The ones with the big hole make setting idle mixtures pretty interesting. I really like Q-jets and Holleys. Both are easy enough to tune Both can flood off-road. Seems to me that q-jets are a little...

    72 FJ40 F-engine issue

Yeah, on mine it was the switch that would lose connection to the ignition while cranking.

To Wrap or Not to Wrap.. that is the question

If you are going to run your cruiser in deep water and in mud i would avoid the wrap like the plague. (I like pinion's mummy reference) I do use header wrap on my Harley. It works wonders for keeping the heat off my legs and the hotter your exhaust gasses are the faster they travel.

    Fuel Pump Nightmare!! Help!

x2 on the crack/vacuum leak in the suction side of the fuel system. is the gas cap venting properly? That pump should prime. A new part just means it hasn't been used yet :D I bought a lot of motorcycle parts for customers that needed a lot of TLC out of the box before I installed them. Several...

    72 FJ40 F-engine issue

Check to see if you have power to the coil with the key on. Depending on how it is wired you may have ignition while cranking and lose it when you release the key. Had an old Dodge that did that intermittently-- very frustrating  and hard to get running!

    My new FJ40

What is the reason for the remote solenoid? it seems to me that redundant solenoids would make troubleshooting starter problems more difficult and one more electrical part to worry about. :meh:

gas in my oil and smoking help

Sounds to me like the fuel pump ran while the engine was off (key left partially on?) the carburetor flooded and the engine swallowed the gas which severely diluted your oil. Pull the dipstick and see how much over full your crankcase is. The thin oil will cause your engine to smoke also...

    Help with clutch noise/vibration

with mine the noise happens when i push in the clutch and while i shift into gear. It is when the transmission input shaft slows to a stop because it is in gear while the engine idles (large difference in rpm's between flywheel and input shaft.) In upshifting there is no noticable...

    Engine Swap Question

Yeah the price seems awesome and you can play with a modified cruiser without messing with your original. IMO it would be a lot of work to do a swap and a shame do it if everything works right now.

    Help with clutch noise/vibration

It could be the pilot bearing or bushing. did you lubricate and replace with new when you did the clutch?I have a SBF that has 12,000 miles on it with all new clutch components. it has a noise when engaging the clutch that most would insist is the TO bearing. my sound is worse when cold. the...

Lazy Man's Way To Smooth Cables

x2 on the Shiner Bock haven't had any since Texas. liquor stores here just stare at me blankly when i ask for it. :crybaby: I lucked out soaking my frozen parking brake cable in place without removing. I just sprayed the cable and worked it while simultaneously performing step six  I...
