When I looked into it, it sounded like the correct way to re-chrome a steel wheel is to separate the center section from the rim. Some info here. I didn't look into pricing after that but I imagine not cheap and beyond my budget.
Anybody know if Toyota part no. 42601-60170 is a direct fit for a stock FJ60 (late '85 model)? My impression is they're the same as 42601-6062-03 but in chrome rather than satin paint, but I haven't been able to find much info on the chrome wheel.
If they are the same, I understand there's 1/4"...
I'm in the Denver area. Mine aren't in terrible shape, they polish up pretty well. It's more the straightening and runout that I have a harder time with. Would love to hear how you like the 16" rims. I'm starting to lean more towards that option.
Thanks for the feedback. That's partially what...
Hello everyone,
Has anyone attempted or have any experience with restoring the stock, 15" steel rims for an FJ60? Not only re-chroming, but straightening and correcting runout as well?
I'm at the point where new tires for the FJ60 always need massive balancing weights that end up falling off...
Here's the final mounting of the lock itself under the dashboard. The adapter is just a .5"x1"x2.75" block of aluminum with three holes drilled to match the hole spacing of the factory holes on the dash and the lock's mounting holes.
Agreed, short of winching it onto a trailer the goal is to make it as hard as possible to drive away with it. And now that the hood is lockable, installing a GPS tracker under the hood is also more feasible and harder to tamper with.
If there's interest in more pictures or detail, let me know and I'd be happy to share. More to come on the lock mounting under the dash and possibly the kill switch.
Hold on to your FJ60s everyone.
The spring for the safety latch had to be relocated:
The lock itself will mount right next to the factory hood release. I only have one bolt in there now and need to work on a bracket for the other since the factory mounting points there are narrower than the lock's mounting holes.
After a break in and theft of my FJ60, I decided to take its security a little more seriously (apparently all the rust wasn't cutting it).
Here's an option for a keyed hood lock on an FJ60 (1985 shown below). When locked, this prevents the factory hood release handle from opening the hood...
Throwing this out there for those looking to replace the nuts and bolts that adjust the alternator and air pump belt tension on FJ60s -
I found Dorman part #917-148 on Amazon (LINK) to be a good fit and replacement. It has the same M8x1.25 thread as stock. Quick and easy fix for any...
Wanted to see if anyone knew of an aftermarket option for the pulley (44311-60010) on an OEM power steering pump. I'm not finding a new OEM pulley in-stock anywhere and I haven't found a thread here with an aftermarket alternative (minus the many saginaw conversions).
Thanks in advance!
