It’s been a while since you posted but it looks like the same a-hole may be back. cole72 reaches out to me to contact the same holmg72 about a classified add I placed. Beware never do business with either of the contacts!!
Wanted - Trans Hump Cover from '74-'78 FJ40. Doesn't need to be pretty.
I have a '72 FJ40 with a sbc and did the 3-speed to 4-speed trans swap. I need the later model trans hump cover to fit the new transmission. Willing to swap for my '72 3-speed cover.
I was afraid of that. Getting the 4-speed wasn’t that hard. It’s all the additional parts that’s driving me crazy.
Does anyone know the total length of the longer shaft? I could make one up if I had the dimensions (total length and location of the notch)
I've almost completed a 3-speed to 4-speed transmission conversion on my '72 FJ40. From reading MUD, I've learned that i need the longer front shift shaft from a 4-speed transfercase in order for my shift level to work with the 4-speed transmission. I'm looking for either just the shaft (#17...
Woody, we all appreciate what you’ve done. I would NEVER have even attempted my FJ40 rebuild if mud wasn’t available. I realize domains and hosting service change. I was hoping that maybe some of the links simply needed to be update to point to the new url but realize that is a daunting and...
I was searching the FAQ and Tech Archives for information on installing rear disc brakes on my ‘72 fj40 and found a lot of links are broken and/or dead. Is there a group or person that can check, fix, or remove broken links?
I’m willing to help and send a list of the links that I’ve found no...
Drum brakes removed from 1972 FJ40 rear axle. $50 + shipping for both. Brakes worked when they were removed but they been sitting for a while so I don't know if they currently work or not. Comes with everything seen in pics (drums, backing plate, calipers, shoes, springs, etc).
Hood from 1972 FJ40 - $125. Local pickup. Could potentially delivery to New England. Was significantly damaged and major repairs completed. There is still minor dents in hood and some scratches that will need to be removed. Hood was paited with etch prior to protect it.
Coarse Spline Pinion from 1972 FJ40 rear axle - $25 + shipping. Some pitting on pinion gear. I also have the ring gear but it has significant pitting (this is the reason for chaning them out) and will throw in for free if you are willing to pay the shipping. Pinion would make a great spare.
The PO did a LOT of questionable things with this rig. Thankfully, the wisdom of this group has corrected a lot of them. When I took apart the axle, the bearing race, bearing, and birf all looked fine (I'm replacing them anyway). This makes me think the damage is from a previous failure that was...
I am in the process of restoring my '72 FJ40. I've been reading threads on Mud and have done a ton of work from the information available. I recently began a complete rebuild of my front axle along with a disc conversion from the information I found. I got a set of 60's part (birfields out)...
