Sometimes it is not the obvious. I ended up removing the gauge and it looked fine so I put some dielectric grease on the bolts securing it to the housing. Hooked it back up thinking I would find a new gauge to replace it later and it is now working! Sometimes it’s just a bad connection.

75 fj40. I replaced my two piece speedometer cable with a one piece speedometer cable and didn’t notice at first that the speed marker reverses the spin on the cable. Is there a fix for this that I’m missing?
I struggled with the same problem for a week. Checked TDC, Checked Compression of Valve #1, Problem ended up being, as I seated the distributor it rotated and was one tooth off. Something that small made it struggle to start and backfire.
