75 fj40 with original 2f motor. Temperature gauge has never worked since I got it and decided to track down the problem. First thing I did was pull out the FSM. I went through each test and the only the first failed. No light came on. The rest passed. Also checked continuity from barrel on the back of cluster to the connector on the sending unit. It looks like no power through the temp gauge. Is there something else to try or is the gauge bad? I hate replacing good parts.

Sometimes it is not the obvious. I ended up removing the gauge and it looked fine so I put some dielectric grease on the bolts securing it to the housing. Hooked it back up thinking I would find a new gauge to replace it later and it is now working! Sometimes it’s just a bad connection.
