If the inners are worn out (in/out play) you’ll have loose steering and it won’t be aligned, so it’s already broken. If you don’t have that play, I’d leave it alone. Changing these should not cause a rack to leak.
Find the "ABCs of AHC" thread. Probably everything you could ever want to know and then some. I would not replace anything until you replace / bleed the AHC fluid and get the pressures in line.
Most likely you need new fluid and globes, but...
I have about 100k on my current set and love them, but the bottom bushings are starting to collapse. If anyone has a used set, or can get me a line on a replacement bushing, I'd sure appreciate it. Its a shame the closest distributor is in...
I started changing the spider bearings in the driveshafts. This is a much bigger PITA than I expected. I've had to take a cutoff wheel to 3 out of 10 dustcaps thus far, because I can get on side off, but the other will not start straight going...
1 bad coil can start to fool the system into thinking there are multiple bad cylinders. A misfire can initially show the bad cylinder, then quickly migrate to many others. You could just have a bad coil or plug with infant mortality. Did you...
My money is on the switch. I had the same issue at ~250K miles. CDL worked, but no dash light.
Not a big deal to swap it out. I used this one and now my dash light is working again:
Beck/Arnley 201-1788 Back-Up Switch
It is true that the...
I’m a fan of the OE rims. The 16” ones on the early 100s in particular are functional and so cheap they’re practically disposable, but they don’t need to look that way. I scored some on FBM for next to nothing, but they were covered in...
Hey Y'all. Just wanted introduce myself. Been lurking since 2020 after I bought my 98 LC and wish I knew about this site before I bought it lol. What I bought to be a weekend beater turned into a mechanical restoration project as some items...
There is no bearing in the CV axles - the service advisor doesn’t know what he’s talking about. You can reboot, but it may not be the best idea depending on age and spline wear. New Toyota CV axles retail about $500 at the dealer, but you can get...
it's worth recognizing that this is the 100 forum. We're all here because we love THIS version of the Land Cruiser. I'll bet the same questions on the 200 forum will yield similar answers, but coming down on the side of 200s. I mean, we know...
I drove a '16 200 for 4 years and I absolutely loved it. I had a 2" OME lift, ARB bull bar, Safari Snorkel, and a ton more goodies...but there is just something about a 100 series that feels more "Land Cruiser" to me. There is no doubt in my head...
Are you sure it’s ATRAC activating (green ATRAC light) and not the stability control (car with squiggly lines)? What you’re describing sounds like stability control, which is often triggered by worn steering bushings.
Just bought my wife a pristine LX570. It’s much more modern, but I still prefer the 100. I’m sure the 200 would be a much better tow vehicle, though, if that’s your thing.
As much as they went forward, they dropped some of my favorite features...
It is, and the OD switch is connected to an electric solenoid found in the valve body and can be serviced/replaced if that is indeed the culprit. I have seen a few threads from the 80 section that may share similar symptoms as yours.
I don’t get the clunking, but I do have a new set of ujoints waiting at home. I was thinking that OD on/off has a constant output from the driveshafts and would rule out ujoints, but now that you say that I suppose the load does change. I just...
