You must overfill, to check level.
While idling in N or P as AT #1 fluid temp, comes up to and reaches ~97f. Remove check plug. If you 1/2 qt over filled, you'll get 1/2 qt. out. Once it just drips out. Replace check plug with new gasket...
Yes, the fixed top cab is shorter, toyota adjusted the bed length to stay with the same 104” wheelbase for fixed and removable top swb trucks. Removable top cab is longer so they shortened the bed 3 inches.

Update. I held up my phone and took another picture, straight on. It turns out that there is another set of 8-125 holes, 65 mm apart on the pulley. Problem solved.
I've personally owned a few BJ's and I've had a few on consignment as well. I typically stick to US spec FJ40's and the BJ was never offer in the US. It was offered in Canada where the trucks were built closer to US spec with heaters, roll bars...
