Good to see you and your 60 back. Stinks about the tires. Maybe get the new Kenda Klever R/T KR601 33x9.5x15? My tires are 7 years old and they still look brand new, tread wise. I’ll be in a similar predicament soon enough! Sadly the tires won’t...
Coming up on around 23 years of ownership, and the last half dozen were more about neglect than care.....
But thats changing!
At this point I can't remember why I stopped driving it. I thought it was starting to run warm on hot days, but the last...
Got it figured out, feel dumb now looking back but the pedal to master was out of adjustment too far. No play between and it was slightly pushed in at all times so slave cylinder couldn't retract
Forgot about this… I put my 13 year old behind the wheel for the first time earlier this week. She putzed around an empty parking lot at night for 5 minutes. @POTATO LAUNCHER recommendation of putting first time drivers in low range gearing was...
Solid Axle Summit 9: big success. New motor performed flawlessly. My only minor quibble is that with the already lower vacuum and high altitude cutting the vacuum even further, the brakes were a bit soft at times. Not dangerously so, but just a...
For this instance in particular...
Start a hot engine differently. Push the gas pedal to the floor once and hold it there and DONT PUMP IT.
Then crank the starter with the gas pedal still held on the floor until it catches and runs.
If the carb...
Found this in owners Manual folded up in my Dads 1985 FJ60 Cruiser. He bought it new and said the salesman said he had 10 on the lot and that Toyota make him buy like one for every 20 compact cars they buy. Only option was choice of 4 different...
Similar story here. My dad bought mine new off the lot in 1984 in Dallas, TX. They had every color but the one he wanted (white). They saw an ad in the newspaper and that’s what prompted them to drive three hours to go have a look. Came home with...
Really strong gas smell and sputtering black smoke sounds like too much fuel. Check the fuel level in the carb sight glass. The engine will not run if it’s drowning in fuel. I had a similar situation when my float failed and filled with fuel...
4.11’s with 33” tires is essentially the same as 29” tires and 3.7’s. My rig is great for highway driving, although when I had it in Colorado I wished I had 4.11’s. More “torque” for going up grades and better engine braking in gear for going...
Less than 4 revolutions of the driveshaft with one tire revolution would equate to stock gearing (3.7). With what you’re describing I’d guess you have 4.11’s. It wouldn’t be dead on, but would be close to actual speed. Another indication would be...
Do you know what ratio the axle gearing is? Stock is 3.7. Easy way to check would be to count the number of times the driveshaft spins with one tire revolution.
The early style clutch (FJ60) with external return spring should pull the throw out bearing away from the clutch disk. So you would be looking for play there. Sounds like you’re doing it right.
I’ve been dumping all my info and pics over on the SAS9 thread so here goes…
Built up my Datsun trailer for the trip to Colorado as well as general maintenance on Paul.
After the trip with my boy we are in the middle of our Colorado family...
2,600 miles to ouray and back. 13-16.6 mpg depending on whichever way the wind blew.
Zero issues. Kept pace just fine.
I really like the 2F in this truck. 361,000 miles on the original bottom end.
Still needs the 12HT but I want to move into...
