hi,

anybody has some experience with what is the influence of long time driving in deserts/sand environment on 1HZ engine and generally on series 80 ?

I am about to buy '91 HZJ 80, (1HZ engine) which was used (ie.) during Tunis Rally in Africa, and would like to know, if this kind environment can be very destructive to engine/transmission/other components.

all comments would be welcome

regards
andy

Hi,

Dont have a lot experience with my 80 in the desert, but in a recent trip to Morocco, the only thing that went wrong was the partial kms counter. After the Moroccon experience, it is difficult to put it back to zero. Strange enough - or not - it happened also to my buddys 80...

a frenchie truck...?

I have just come back from a 4,500 mile round trip to the Sahara. The sand had no apparent adverse effect on the Land Cruiser. Got everywhere in the interior though.

thanks for comments NCR2006, idrubie, Dusty ...

maybe someone has been repairing engine, on transmission box from a car which has been used for a long time in such a dusty/sandy environment, and can comment on it's conditions ?
