I think that's the exact moment he found out I'm bringing pickled eggs to Cruise Moab this year 👀

I realize (now) that I am a month late, but @linuxgod said to let me in!

But seriously, I'd be willing to volunteer in some capacity if it makes a difference. I'd have a few kids with me hoping that wouldn't be an issue.

Definitely get on the waitlist. Being open to leading trails is often helpful too. When I did COTR last year in Tennessee some spots opened up several weeks before the event. Hopefully you’ll get in, but if not you can camp with us and register as one of my guests and ride along with me good sir

I don’t care what anyone says. You’re a great guy Geoff. 😁😉

I have a ham radio installed, and own some radios that do FRS. My question is, what will most in this COTR group be using?

EDIT: After locating the comms info on the website, I see no talk of ham radio and that FRS and GMRS is the same, just that GMRS is more powerful.

Dammit. I just bought a second 5W handheld like 3 weeks ago to complement the one I won at the raffle last year.

GMRS is allowed to transmit higher power than FRS, uses slightly different frequencies and requires purchase of a license (but no test). And that license you buy extends to anyone in your immediate family that is using your radios. I had a HAM license that I inadvertently allowed to lapse and haven't gotten licensed again. I bought a GMRS 15 watt from Midland last year, got a Rockie Talkie 5W HT at the raffle last year and just bought a second one a few weeks ago. I like them. Good transmit power, clear comms, decent range, and easier to deal with for the occasional user than my HAM setup.

I’m excited. My father will be joining me and my sons. 3 generations. Lee I might need to buy an extra rider ticket though (raffle not necessary, but BBQ is!)

We’ll have the travel trailer since we’re driving from Chicago to OR/CA first. It’s the circuitous route to Silverton for us

Great idea. I did the Kokopelli 3 day/2 night run into Moab for Cruise Moab and that was a super way to kick off my first CM. The overnight runs are awesome. As it happens, I've already planned a stop at the Sand Dunes via Medano pass on my way to Silverton. I'm planning to be in Walsenburg Thursday night and hit Medano pass Friday and spend the day at the Dunes. Then planning on heading up to Creed on Saturday to check out the ghost towns and mines. Then Sunday, either to Lake City to take Cinnamon Pass to SIlverton or just catch Stoney Pass to Silverton. Probably spend Sunday night in Hotel in Silverton. Monday, relax in SIlverton or do a little local exploring and be at Kendall Mountain by check-in.

Will the full Alpine Loop be a trail choice during COTR? If so, and I am able to get on it, then I'd probably take Stony Pass on my there. I've done Engineers from Lake City before (highly recommended) but I have never done Cinnamon.

Full Alpine Loop is a typical offering. But be prepared for a REALLY LONG day unless Tim Nakari is leading it and then you just struggle to keep up with him. But he does get you back to camp at a reasonable hour (unlike when I lead it) @nakman

Roger that. One year at LCDC, there was, I believe an Alpine Loop group that ran late and got stuck in a storm on Mineral Creek coming back down in the dark. Didn’t get back until like 1:00 am. Stuff can happen. They call it adventure (easy to say, I wasn’t on that run).
