Anyone with a 2016 have experience driving an earlier year 200?

I am curious if you noticed any difference with the two extra gears (performance, shifting, fuel economy, etc).

Thanx.

I don't have experience with older models, but i can say the 8 speed transmission in my 2016 shifts ROUGH! I mean, like jolts you back in the seat every shift through the first few gears.

Wow. That doesn't sound right. Have you shown the dealer this shifting aspect?

Yes, they say it's normal. I keep the ect power button on most of the time and this helps a lot.

Agree, that doesn't sound right.

That's odd. I would think the ECT Power setting would make shifts MORE abrupt...not less, as it allows RPMs to climb higher before shifting during acceleration. ??

Beyond that???

***I'm suspicious of any Toyota tech who claims that, "It's normal..." when in all likelihood, those techs have only seen maybe 1 or 2 2016 LCs with 8 speed trans in their lives...if that. These things are brand new, and RARE. How do they know it's "normal" if they've never seen them before...and if they have...MAYBE 1 or 2 for maybe a couple of months maximum? Sounds extremely assumptive on their part to me...

it seems rough on my 16 too, but I coming out of the 435 BMW which is extremely smooth. I got used to the shifting now, but have noticed at beginning. Now don't notice anymore as much

I think this is getting used to "Landcruiser things". My 2011 shifts rough below 15mph.

I agree. Same on my 2014. You will eventually learn how to drive it to make the ride/shifting and starts from a stop for that matter, smoother if that makes sense.

This sounds right. It took me a while to understand how to 'trick' throttle-by-wire truck programming to shift when I wanted it too. Once you do, it is a smooth rocket ship. Wonder how having two more speeds changes this learning curve.

What if you disconnect the battery, wait, reconnect and then drive with the transmission 'learning' your driving style? I'm going to assume it is a transmission that can adapt to driving.

sounds like you own a merc....thats how my mothers 16' benz operates...had to learn her style of driving....bunch of bs if you ask me
my 08 shifts smooth and thats with 35's

Ya... These are trucks, after all. I do think it's funny to hear a tech proclaim what's normal on a never-before-seen truck tranny...but meh. Toyota makes great stuff. LC's don't shift like BMWs, and it would be weird if they did. ;)

I feel 1-2 in my 2013 if I'm not babying the gas from a standin start. Other than that the 6 speed is smooth, whether in ECT or Eco mode.

I do find the shifts in sport mode from 3-2 and even more pronounced from 2-1 are jerky, even at very low speed. The 2-1 almost clunks. Wondering if the trans mount is slightly worn

On a '16 if the shifts feel rough under light acceleration is complain to the regional manager if the dealer thinks it's normal. Could be that it is "normal" (in that all the 8 speeds do it) but it's not really right. Toyota may have a firmware update for the transmission if y get enough complaints.

I feel like my 16 searches for gears from first to third. I didn't notice it as much with my 09 LC. My fuel consumption is the same, in the 09 I was running 33s and now I am running 34s. Also my 09 seemed quicker.

Curious... Which 34's are you using, and did you have to do more than the lift to accommodate them?

I'm thinking about Toyo Open Country A/T or possibly M/T that list as 33.9 and 34.1, but I'm curious as to whether I'll have to move anything beyond my BP-51 lift and SPC upper control arms...

I'm rolling 34(ish) tires, (285/70 R18's) So I guess by the numbers about a 33.7 and I'm just rolling the Ironman lift with the SPC control arms, nothing else. I did have to remove the mudflaps and cut some plastic out of the inner fender! I can tell you I'm right at the limit I think without relocating the KDSS bar, just my 2 cents, hope that helps....

You have 20mm offset though...
...so I'm wondering how much I'll differ with my 50mm offset RWs.

I'd like to do either Toyo Open Country M/T in 285/75/17...which are listed at 34.1 tall and 11.6 wide...

Or...

Trail Grappler 285/75/17 which are 34.09 and 11.57 wide.

Would like to go as big as I can without KDSS bracket...

??

Also curious about noise on Toyo M/T... I don't see many running them here...

Interesting feedback on the new 8 speed in the LC. While I realize it's not an LC, I also don't care for the 8 speed in my RC-F. Something about 8 speeds-just feels like it's always shifting, never in the right gear.

I will say that my 2015 LC with the 6-speed transmission is generally smooth like butter, but there are times (seemingly random) where the shifts are more pronounced.
