Hey guys, here is a nice project with a lot of work already complete. I purchased this with the plan of robbing the chassis and tub for my 78 project. I since decided that I really wanted to bring the 78 back from the ground up in its entirety. The rust wasn't as bad as thought on my 78 so I'm going to rescue it. Great opportunity here for someone that wants to jump start their build. The individual I bought this project from performed all the work. I have all his build photos getting it to this point.
Here are the details:
1976 fj40. Many hours have already been invested. Completely disassembled with parts well organized in containers. Every bolt is packaged and labeled.
Chassis is restored with frame blasted and...
Do I build this one or sell it to preserve it to its original soft top status.
I plan to build an FJ but not wanting the soft top.
Is this a rare rig? Is it desirable to keep original?
Or do I just build it the way I want to.
Help with direction.
I have another I could build just would need more work. This is a great rig. Does have some rust in a few spots. But body is really straight.
I’m new to the FJ community but appreciate original rigs and would like to see this one built back to its original state and I’m just no looking for that build.

The truck has a significant amount of rust. There are compromised parts in rear or frame (I believe it could be re-enforced) and the tub itself has a lot of rust.

Re-posting up my 1975 FJ40. I had originally posted this around a year ago after moving out of state, but my buddy that was taking care of it for me in California decided that he wanted to buy it off of me and so I stopped trying to sell it. Fast forward a year, and he is in a bit of a rough patch financially and won't be following through with the purchase anymore. So back up for sale it goes.
I will be out in Los Angeles February 8-11 for a work trip and intend to do some extensive wiring work on the truck. I will have the title with me on the trip and am very motivated to get this thing sold while I am out there.

Testing the waters on the idea of trading my nice Porsche 914 EV conversion project for a 40 series or 70 series roller.
The Porsche is in good mechanical shape and decent cosmetic shape. It is, however, definitely still a project and should go to someone who can turn a wrench and is familiar with high voltage (~130VDC max).
I pulled the anemic two liter last winter and swapped in a series wound DC motor with a high performance Zilla controller. The combination generates something like 150hp.
I spent a lot of time and money on the build and used high end parts throughout. It has 16kWh of storage which means about 40 - 50 miles of range, dependent upon how you drive it (it will spin the tires in second gear, if you ask it to)...

This is your chance to own a piece of history, and a labor of love. This was my daily driver for several years after completing the build. I mostly rebuilt this truck over the course of 3 years down to the frame rebuilding and replacing a ton of parts keeping original parts a priority, but adding some minor luxuries. Has rust in rear quarters an rear sill, floors are solid. One rear door is dented pretty bad but have an extra. Has dents scratches not a restored vehicle. Has 2f not sure if matching. I put a Fuji carb from city racer on it and an original style air cleaner. Could be restored. This was recently built by BTB/Man-A-Fre in NV. It was a custom job for me personally with a new Mosley HO 2F, header, Holley FI, 5 speed H55, 4.11 with ARB lockers, pwr steer, radio, trac bar, rebuilt axles, new suspension, wheels and a bunch of other goodies including a powder coated frame. All new bed liner paint inside, outside and underneath. A sharp eye will note that the tub is not a 1980. It was replaced with an older tub as the original had been over modified.

250straight six from a 1969 Chevelle, 4 speed FJ40 transmission and 4WD transfer case. Holly 4 barrel carburetor, K&N cold air intake attached to a Safari Snorkel. Replaced Clutch Master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch plate and bearing. Upgraded brake master cylinder and front disk brake calipers from a FJ62, new front pads and rotors.
Upgraded FJ62 power steering unit from stock manual steering. New Optima red top battery, radiator and water pump. 5 brand new 33” tires.
