This looks like a lot of fun. I had no idea Coleman made one of these.

Yeah well Coleman has been making that for years for Japan but not for the US.

Here is another one that pisses me off about them. When I break my Coleman lantern globe I have this to chose from.

Coleman.com -Parts for globe : Globes

If I were in Japan I'd have this to choose from.

Where is my rock addition globe? It's in Japan that is where it is. If I wanted a yellow (Amber) globe which until today I had no idea Coleman even made I'd have to call the number listed at the bottom of the Globe Parts list and notice at the very bottom there is a small blurb about amber globes and what company to call. No pic no nothing.

When we want a portable outdoor fire pit this is what we get.

In Japan they get this.

WTF. How can this be? We get pretty leaves and they get something that will actually fold up and work.

But wait. There is more we do have something they don't have. We have this s***.

I bet they are pretty pissed we have this and they don't. I wonder who at Coleman Corporate made that mistake.

From what I can tell Coleman gives us s*** and gives the rest of the world cool stuff.

I sent Coleman a link to this page, maybe we will get some answers. I have seen a fine mesh screen to replace the glass glob wich would be great foe rough 4x4 trips.

that's just the nature of JDM goods, it's everything we want, but can't get.

Edit: Shoot, it shouldn't be that hard to make such a table, though...

cool stuff

JDM camping gear rocks. They are BIG on grilling. I bought a foldable stainless steel charcoal grill there by Uniflame which is supercool.

Maybe because Coleman sells their junk at Walmart and that cool stuff would be too expensive for that market. There are plenty of companies (Jap and Euro) that do sell in the US, but best bet is to buy online.

So, are you guys really willing to pay $272.46 for a "Stainless Fireplace" or $187.09 for a table with a grill in the middle? One reason they get the good stuff is that they are willing to pay the premium for it. In the 8 years I spent there, I saw LOTS of cool stuff. I came back with some of it, and then there were other things I wasn't willing to pay for. Just sayin'...

We used to have good stuff commonly available in this country, but the majority are not willing to pay the price to get it. They only look at price, not construction quality. When I do find something that looks good, often it is shoddily made. I find that very frustrating. Recently I had my stainless silverware refinished rather than getting a new set. None of the current designs in stores looked half as good, and most were thin and light in comparison to what I had. The new finish should last another 30 years. Yes, I'm willing to pay for quality and design, it's just that it isn't there in most items.

I couldn't agree more. I recently bought a piece of equipment that was very old and needed repair for more than a couple of pennies because I couldn't bring myself to waste money on today's version.

Here's to good stuff...

Oyaji? Haha. Most would never admit to it. :) You're right though, Japanese are more than willing to drop bigger money as long as they feel they are getting better quality. Here, we just want cheap.

Yep, a "dirty old man" I am! I'm really not that old, but my wife has been referring to me with that name for as long as I can remember. I fit in with my wife's friends' husbands just fine.

There are a few things I'd like to pick up and bring back with me on the next trip. One of those folding fire pit things would be cool to have.

You know, I got the itch to try and build my own version of this thing, maybe around my Webber. It's be neat to try. I'll be back in a bit with some sketches.

Edit:

And here's an update:
