Just got down to Moab for the long weekend with the wife and went straight to Slickrock. Had never wheeled the 80 hardcore before. Went straight for the jugular with Hell's Revenge. The 80 performed flawlessly through ALL obstacles in stock form without lockers and lift!! Hell's Gate got my adrenaline going pretty good. My wife has some pretty good pics of the fun stuff. The 80 made me look like a veteran 4 wheeler!! That cat converter hung a little on the drop into Hell's gate but that was the only time. I'll have those turned flat sometime. Minor scratch on each corner of rear bumper underneath and that was it! Loving it so far and will get on Fins n' Things tomorrow. My wife was a great spotter through the tough stuff. Gotta get the pics uploaded and post them.

Cool...can't wait to see the pics!

You planning to go to Cruise Moab?

Nice trail choice. The Gate is kinda nerve-wracking with that giant hood in front of you, eh? Good place for a spotter and it sounds like you guys had that covered together!

That cool. I can't wait to get me an 80. I'm going to pick one with factory lockers.
Get them pictures up.

Actually temps were in the mid 50's! Beautifull day for an awesome trail run.
We are hoping to make Cruise Moab this year. Hopefully next time with a rear locker of some sort and some slightly larger than stock tires. Even just an inch more of clearance and I don't think we would have touched anywhere except the catalytic converter. I truly believe now that the 80 in stock form is the most reliable and capable unmodified production vehicle ever! Can't wait to keep on wheeling tomorrow. This vehicle has only had maintenance and PM done to it. No modifying at all. Took the running boards and tow hitch off for clearance issues. My wife still can't believe that I actually ran Hell's Gate!! The drop was incredible and the ascent on the other side was intense. I would have noticed a difference with the locking diffs in the ascent as I had tire slippage a couple of times in that ascent. Blown away by how well it performed in stock form. A lifted Jeep Wrangler with big tires, early 90's I would guess with leafs, drove to the drop after we completed it and decided against it. He watched me come out the other end and was just mumbling to himself "No way man, no way".

I want to see photos! You did this with Michelin LTXs?

Actually was refering to stock size tires. They are Pirelli Scorpions, on it when I bought it six months ago.

I have to admit, it hadn't even crossed my mind to do any hardcore wheeling with the 80 still in stock condition til I read a post from IdahoDoug stating that a stock 80 could handle almost anything thrown at it in Moab. Thanks Doug:)

Elijah,

Thanks for not making a liar out of me! I'd have felt bad if you'd pulled the rear bumper off, flattened your cats, and torn a front bumper corner off, then let me have it for misguiding you - heh. Clearly you knew what to do with a highly capable vehicle or you obviously wouldn't have been out there solo.

Seriously, if you have not wheeled your 80 yet I think it will stun you what it can do if you know the basic theory of handling obstacles and a little experience. I definitely advise a little learning curve and going with another vehicle, but the 80 was bred from the word go as a fully capable trail vehicle. Those who have bought the HG DVD got to see a little 15 second snippet of a development test of the lockered 80 and that was typical - rocks, holes, steep slopes and fully crossed up suspension. I have hours of footage and you can clearly see the completely different body motions of the 80 compared to other vehicles on a rough section - all kinds of movement underneath but an odd serenity above in the body that clearly shows the breeding.

Somewhere around I also have a great video I bought from one of the 80sCool regulars of a slew of 80s (and other Cruisers) all over Moab. The sound track is Peter Gabriel's album with "Sledge Hammer" on it. The capability of the 80 again comes through loud and clear.

Glad you had a good time - hope you got some pasta at Main Street Cafe on your way out of town...

Pics!!

Guys I need help in reducing the picture size. We're on my wife's laptop and no photoshop or anything else to reduce size. Got pics uploaded but can't post them:frown:
