Ok I know this might still be early for some, but who is planning to make this trip? I seen 1 other 80 last year and a hand full of FJ40's. I had a blast last year exploring, speeding through some sand washes and overall just enjoying being out wheeling. Let me know so that I can look out for you.

Think they'll have Panamint Valley rd. open by then?

My son and I are going. Look for a black FJ 40 with yellow rollbar and corner guards. Been nick name the bumble bee. Son has a TJ. Are plaque's say the Putt- Abouts Cal. Kevin

Cool I will keep an eye out, I will be in the White 80. I will be with my other club the Santa Maria 4-wheelers for this trip...Last year we made camp @ the end of the main camp towards wild rose rd. I plan on bringing my trailer out this year so Look for SM 4 wheelers sign and a 24ft travel trailer parked behind my 80. -Joe-

My local 4x4 club (HighDesert 4Wheelers) is the lead sponsor on PVD. Unfortunately I am the only Yota geek in the club. I didn't make it out last year, but am planning on heading out this year. I won't be dragging the FJ40 (rer diff is messed up), but I'll have the FZJ80 there.

Be aware of road conditions. Recent reports of several road closures and washed out side roads. Do whatever you need to research the roads. CALTRANS web page is no help right now. The best info we've had is from the "local" establishments. Plan your route accordingly.

Thanks for the info, as of right now I'm not sure If I'm going to make it now...As a Fed Government employee I will not be able to afford this trip unless the shut down ends and the uncertainty of not getting paid is over:frown:

Man, that really sucks. hold tight, I'm sure it will end soon.

At the last Trail Crew meeting I attended, there was a show of hands of about 16 rigs that were planning to attend. IIRC, more than half are Toyotas. I will be there in my ragtop 40. I'll be the guy trying to play guitar at the campfire over the drone of all the generators!

I drove the closed section of 178 in lat August after the dedication of the Nadeau Trail; I've never seen asphalt turned to taffy like that. OTOH, I camped in Darwin last weekend, and everything was peachy there.

Well the shut down is over! I just registered up for the event :) Now I just have to keep working on the :princess: and see if I can come out with the kids... If not I still think I will tow the trailer out and sleep in comfort:beer:

Just got my Registration map and looks like Hwy 190 is still going to be closed. So if your coming from the north your going to have to go down the 395 over to the 178 through Trona and take Nadeau road.

The count down continues:D. I plan on leaving Orcutt around 8am and hope to make to camp before 3pm. According to goggle maps it is about a 5 hour drive give or take. Probably more with the trailer in tow.

My son has a TJ, and I have a 71 Black, with yellow corner guards with the rag top on. Just got that on yesterday so momma stays warm. Class C motorhome will be flying American flag, and red Toyota flag. Plaques say Putt-Abouts. Looking forward to this, Kevin.

mazder,
Where was the first photo you posted taken?

Just got back from DV and no serious road/trail washouts...should be a fun event.

That photo I was on waterfall zero on the Cummins cutoff run last year. Best advice for guys in wagons during these events, "Dont listen to the jeep guys as spotters they have no idea how to spot a big ole beast of a Cruiser.":flipoff2:

Ahha...I didn't recognize it from the Defense Mine trail...as we always take the milder route :)

Thanks.

We Pre-Ran Defense, Look-Out City, and a couple in our group went down Cummins Cut-Off on Saturday. Those trails are in good shape after the rains this season. Trailers were unloaded about a mile shy of the quarry at the end of Nadeau. The asphalt portion of Nadeau road is in good shape, but there are a few areas where the road narrows in creek beds. The unasphalted section has some wash outs though. One wash out is over 3' deep in a creek bed. It's easily bypassed though. I ran my FZJ80 on this trip, unfortunately the FJ40 rear axle has issues.

Hope everyone has a good time this year. Hope to bump into you guys up there. I'll have the Black 80 and a Bulldog on a leash.
