In the middle of the night last night (Saturday) I blew through Klamath Falls on the 97 with 4 Toshiba HIRs and my big Hellas on and caught a glimpse of an 80 in someone's driveway on hwy 97. In the way that you do at that hour, I pondered as I motored on whether that was a chance sighting of one of the Mud members vehicle. Anyone here?
Was a sad trip as we travelled to Santa Barbara, CA for an unexpected funeral. Way too young at 63.
As expected, the 97 with 185,000 miles on it ran flawlessly for 2500 miles using zero oil and burning 14 MPG at a steady 73mph. With 4 passengers and gear for a week, I'm not complaining. Had one close call when a guy pulled out from the left side of the road at night and badly misjudged the speed of us and the guy next to me in the left lane. Some hard braking and a swerve and all was well. In San Francisco traffic someone locked up brakes next to us and several vehicles slid across lanes around us but again no contact with our vehicle - Cruiser karma intact.
Discovered the source of an annoying idle vibration during the trip. I'll post this, but the radiator overflow bottle vibrates in its holder and can clearly be heard in the truck as an exhaust/heat shield type rattle. Will fix and post.
