Hello.

I'm thinking about ordering one of the extreme valve body kits to my A440F from www.automatictransmision.com.au.

Do you know how much time would take to an experienced automatic transmission specialist to fit it in?

They are charging me 50 euros (about 75 $) per hour, and if it's going to take them the whole day it will cost me more than the thing.

Thank you.

I don't know, but you could consider buying a rebuilt one from Rodney, and sending your old one back as a core. That could be just as cheap in the long run...maybe. : ). Good luck.

I agree with you that would be the best solution, but I don't think it would be cheaper. Only the postage from Australia of the whole transmission is about 800 AUD, and the heavy duty transmission about 3000 AUD, against 800 AUD for the exteme valve body kit.

I don't know how much the shipping would be, but I bet less than a third of the shipping cost of the whole transmission.

We are talking of a difference of at least 2500 AUD, what is about 1500 euros.

In additon my trasmission has been rebuilt a year ago and only has 10000 miles on it.

It depends of how many hours would take them to mount the extreme valve body kit, but, even if it takes them 10 hours, it wouldn't be more than 500 euros (about 750 dollars).

True. Well, I doubt it would take them that long. I'm not a mechanic, but I read somewhere that its fairly easy for a normal mechanic to install one of his valve bodies.

I've installed three of them now and I'm not what you would call a normal mechanic - just some guy that doesn't mind a little ATF in the eye occasionally. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours for someone versed in auto trannies and probably even less time. All three folks, me included, as well as others familar with stock A440F performance, have been very happy with the results of swapping in Rodney's valve body on their A440Fs. You'd REALLY like one of his Extreme A440F transmissions!

Well, a couple of hours would be fine.

I've read lots of good opinions about Rodney's products specially the extreme valve body kits.

Would you say a normal transmission with the extreme valve body kit would be as hard or nearly as hard as a complete transmission, valve body and torque converter by Rodney?

By the way, I think the fuel consumption should get better with the extreme valve body kit. Have you experienced any improvement in that way?

Regards.

I don't understand your question - is it as hard? To install the valve body is a couple of hours. Removing and reinstalling a complete t-case, tranny and torque converter is a much more involved process. I know the FJ62 t-case is different from the 80 series t-case so can't comment on how involved that would be to remove and replace but, if you are going to remove a 62 t-case, you might as well rebuild it as you have it all apart anyway. Not sure if that is the case with the 80 case. Also, Rodney's Extreme torque converter requires modification to the drive plate attaching bolts which takes time. Depending on your tranny's condition, just the valve body can be a very good mod. I never equate mods with increased fuel mileage. The valve body firms up slow sloppy shifts which enhances on and off road performance but I wouldn't say it increases gas mileage.

Sorry overhanger, when I say hard I mean strong, reliable.

Oh. Then my answer would be a resounding no if you are talking about putting a new valve body on a used A440F with untold mileage on it! Check out Rodney's website for his descriptons of each of the products and form your own conclusions, based on his marketing hype, of course. The Extreme A440F is modified to handle more torque as is the torque converter but may be overkill for the average, or even above average 3FE. Not only are they stronger than stock, however, they perform much better too on road and off road in my experience.

Well, my A440F is been rebuilt a year ago, it works fine but it's slow and lazy and it changes too soon from third to overdrive, the torque converter also slips too much in my opinion.

I recieved an email from Rodney telling that this would be solved with the extreme valve body kit.

The best would be to get the whole A440F extreme, but my economy doesn't allow me to.

Regards.
