I spied this beauty today at a local camping show. It belongs to a comany called Michelles Sacs who make high quality seat covers and bags for the 4x4 fraternity.
Its had 80 series axles fitted by the owner and is soon to get air bags to cope with the added weight on the axles from all the accessories although I think the added outboard from the extra length axles may also be causing the OME springs to constantly sag.

The owner says the added axle width is well worth the extra stabilty:cool:

The side lift up panels were fitted in a previous life when it was a Telstra telephone linesman vehicle .
This conversion is no longer available probably because of the cost.

Gorgeous truck...I notice the induction cowl. Is it intercooled?

Thanks for the pics.

Robin

I forgot to ask but quite a few landcruiser's run that scoop here. It looks suspicously like a Mitsubishi Pajero intercooled turbo diesel bonnet scoop.

This was another troopy out in the car park

That is one nice conversion  How did they deal with the steering? I notice a tie rod in front of the axle.

Dave

He didnt go into details but he said that was the hard bit.
I hear a rumour it will be the cover rig on the next issue of a major aussie 4x4 mag so Ill save you a copy:D

It looks like they flipped the bottom steering arms L<->R and front <-> back and are using a draglink connected to the tie rod, which you can see in the pic. It looks like it has a totally wrong ackeman angle unless the driver is into drifting :grinpimp:

To keep the ackerman correct, he could have used a RHD steering arm on the left side and a LHD steering arm on the right.

On second look, the front diff housing doesn't appear as wide as I would expect for an 80. OTOH from the way the knuckle/swivels are exposed, he seems to be using a wheel with a large offset or wheel spacers. Am I seeing correctly?

That doesn't apear to be what has happened there though. The rule of thumb is that you should be able to draw a line from the tie rod end, through the knuckle bearing and end up in the center of the rear axle. Same story if the tie rod is behind the axle. The line starts with the knuckle, through the tie rod end and to the middle of the rear axle. This guy needs to make a call to www.ottindustries.com They have 80 series high steer arms.

Its beautiful anyway.
