So I was on my home from little X-mas shopping and my cruiser just died, while a going down the road doing about 45 mph. I engine just stopped turning like it was out of gas, but it wasn't 3/4 of a tank. I coasted into a parking lot. Called AAA. Then got out to check the engine, checked the oil, the belts, and radiator fluid... all good. the alternator is brand new and pumping out the volts, so i was baffled. AAA informed me about 2 hrs to get a tow truck, so naturally, i wanted to check if she started again. It cranked, i gave it little gas, and she turned over like she still loved me. And I made the 10+ miles home, put in the some fuel treatment/injector cleaner. So I wondering if you guys have any ideas or suggestions of what to do or where to go.

Info: 1989 FJ62 - completely stock, no major repairs, new belts, new tires (stock size), new alternator, 206k miles.

Check for codes

Maybe fuel filter(on the passenger fender)

Run fuel pressure test(specs per fsm)

Check the rear wire in the drivers side rear quarter panel going to the fuel pump (access that buy taking the panel off inside much easier to trace it from the tank first then inside)

I had the same thing happen to me. I threw parts at the problem(fuel filter, FPR, and fuel pump). I`d drive two weeks without a problem, then it would quit on me.
I finally found the wire to the fuel pump that runs up through the drivers side wheel well was corroded.
Also there was corrosion in the wire harness in the well where the jack is,although that was`nt as bad.
Fixed the wire, fixed the problem. Give that a careful look before you spent a lot of money.

Maybe the fuel pump was getting hot, and shutting down? After it cooled off it started working again. Do a search for fuel pumps on the FJ62 and see what you can find out.
