After searching and finding nothing - I was wondering why some like white letters on the tires turned in versus out...is it because of who makes the tire? Does it take away from the overall aesthetic?
I would not dare say either way is right or wrong....but for me it makes cars crash in my head when I see white letters trying to jump out from under the rig....I just always thought they should go on the outside....
I'm getting tires mounted Monday so I'd like to know what you guys/gals think...

I like them OUT on my cruiser, but I like them IN on my other (newer) vehicles. Just preference.

In general if I don't want the letters out I just try to buy tires without the colored lettering at all - many tires come in whited or non-whited versions. However at least once the shop didn't have the non-whited version and I just told them to put the lettering to the inside.

Its seems from past posts that most like black out. I don't mind white out as long as its Goodyear or BFG. Anything else seems cheezy. I'd hide the white lettering if running "supper gumbo mud king" tires. Just IMOP.

I like to look at the tires first. Some look great with all black while others look much better with white letters. Depends on your wheels also...

I hate giving anyone "free advertising". So you're unlikely to ever see me wearing a cap or teeshirt with "Nike" or "Lion Beer" written on it. (Unless of course I got it for free AND it was both well-made and comfortable.:D)

Neither would I ever put a "Toyota" or "Landcruiser" sticker right across the top of my windscreen for the same reason.

But I also think it looks odd, when tyres HAVE white lettering, for it to be placed on the inside (where it is often still quite visible - especially on a 4x4).

So if I'm unfortunate enough to have had no choice but to buy tyres with white lettering (which is actually the case with my BFG tyres) - I put the lettering to the outside.

PS. Trying to get the best "value for money" forced me to choose "white lettered tyres" last time and may well do so again. (In a small country like this we don't get much of a selection in what tyres we buy compared to what it must be like in the USA.)

So when will we get to read the tech thread on emblem removal from your blue Toyota?

I did white letters out.

It just seemed natural for my rig, being sort of a stocker...

:meh:

 Hey. That's different. They're STOCK!

You must draw a line between "STOCK" and "AFTERMARKET" Steve

Hey - I could rant on endlessly on this topic if I REALLY started.

For instance - Far too many manufacturers want to show off their products or product brandnames at the expense of the end-user. Yellow Old Man Emu shocks are one example. - If I ever fitted those BRIGHT YELLOW things on my cruiser they'd definitely be repainted BLACK first.

I actually think it depends on the color of your truck. Letters out tends to look better on black trucks, IMO.

It is also an illusional trick. White out makes the tires look shorter. Black out makes the tires look taller.

Wow...Thats a good mix of what I was wondering about....The tires I'm getting are super inexpensive and new but are emblazoned with "ROUGH RIDER" in white letters...Just seems like I'm promoting a condom or something.....so....I'll look into some tire black and consider putting them on the inside.....or...I'll just be "special" and roll my rough riders....:)

Didn't you pay $500 for your truck? :flipoff2:

You should at least spend some money and buy a set of name brand tires. Sheesh!:)

If the car is also white it looks nice, when i buy my Toyota it came with the letters out:lol:

yeah but 40 bucks a tire seemed like a good deal....trying to keep costs down...:)

Yeah, but let's not try to break a record for all time cheapest, er...I mean lowest cost rebuilds.:)

White goes in unless you wheel speed bumps :D

The rocks will soon make those nice white letters look ratty and trashed :frown:
