The Webber carb I have in my 40 is a piece of junk, I want to swap back to a stock carb but it looks like a need a good number of parts to swap back. Does anyone know if there is a reverse Webber kit? So far I have the carb, the rebuild kit is easy to get, I think I need to replace all the throttle parts and choke parts. Anyone have any advice?

Also, the Webber has an electric choke

It's an 8/73 FJ40

Thanks Tom

PS Or would it be easier to switch to a different aftermarket carb?

What's wrong with your Weber? Is it the 32/36, or the 38?

Going back to an AISIN carb is easy. Get a carb and ALL THE THROTTLE CABLE BRACKETS with it. Then, get a new throttle cable from Toyota (C-Dan). You'll also need the carb spacer and gaskets. This setup will just bolt back on.

Once you acquire your carb, send it off to Texas or Jim C. for a rebuild.

I did the exact same thing -- already had a carb. I took off the AISIN, put the Weber on, hated it, went back with a Jim C. rebuilt AISIN and will never look back.

The wire you have hooked to your electric choke now will hook up to your fuel cut-off switch when you go back with the AISIN carb. No problem.

Good luck. Suck up the cost and go for it. It will be worth it -- you'll never regret it.

Not sure which Weber I have but it gives me a lot of problems, I have taken it a couple of places and they all said it is a piece of junk.

Jody,
Don't I have to get a new gas pedal also? I thought that was part of the Weber conversion kit. Also, who is Jim C? Whats his internet address?

Thanks Tom

Hmmm... Not sure. I'd have to check on your '73. Maybe. You're right on the edge. I think it's 9/72 or something like that.

Jim Chenoweth, Toyota 6 cylinder guru extrodinaire!! fj40jim@aol.com. His business is "TLC Performance" When he did mine he charged me $250 to rebuild it. I ship it to him and he pays shipping back. Takes about a week depending on his workload. Email him for details and today's pricing. Had mine done several years ago.

Jim will do a "performance" rebuild on your carb. Send him a note along with the carb detailing your driving habits on/off road and if you need -- and you will -- ported vaccuum for your distributor. He'll set it up and do his magic inside to make it work for you. I highly recommend a non-usa distributor (with vaccuum advance) to go along with your rebuilt AISIN carb.

Holler back here or PM me with any other questions...

Jody.

If you need a new gas pedal I have one with the bolts, complete take out.. you would need a new throttle cable. Like a bicycle hand brake cable.

The gas pedal is from a 70 FJ 40 and should bolt right in.

Warren.

I've got a pedal and cable assembly from a 72-73 if needed, it is complete with the piece that goes on the base of the carb.
