I just got done with this cut and turn thing. i have the caster at around 5. It use to be a deg 1 be for so it was way off. I didn't have DW be for. it just wonder around a lot. but know after i got everything together it has the biggest DW i ever been. it had a bent steering arm before so i replaced it. the toe was way off. i think about 1 " wider from the back of the tire then the inside. for i thing i set it even and then its like 66 1/4 toe in and the back has like 66 1/2 You have to have 1/4 toe in right? 35 mtrs? My speedo doesn't work but i was going around 3 gear 3,000 rpms and it started going it bad. be for i adjusted the toe in it was at 2 gear around 3000 rpms. so help a bit? any more places to check? im really lost and need to get it ready by wednesday and dont want to drive it like this at all. thanks for any tips

Eric,

Check your wheel bearings, trunnion bearings, tie rod ends, bushings, steering gear box, cracks in frame, wheels balanced?

You might just need some higher octane fuel :)

Dude, is that English?

It's a SO.CAL figure of speach
:DSorry sorry. Did it fast and didnt even go back and read it. Just kinda tired of working on it. Im pretty sure my shims are off. Read on mud a bit. The shims i had before where pretty bad (Cracked) so i tho i was going to get new ones and reuse them but they where wrong sizes. I'll take it apart and see what I have. Long day tom. You guys think thats causing the death wobble

edit, I measure the caster by the knuckle race cap, and check to day on the knuckle where steering arm mounts. I got 5 on each side. I have a drum axle laying around with good shims. Could I use that? They say toyota on them.

Eric

going to try the shims first since i think they way off.

Drive side. LEFT SIDE
I had a toyota shim (reads .52) but says 50 on it. Top arm

Lower cap: .050 toyota shim and a 1.01 mm
whats a good shim to start with. i have a few .50
and why does one side have 3 holes, and the other only has 2 for the studs?

edit for

found this right now going to have to read some when i get back home to my computer

thanks

There is no 'sounds right'. Frankly I wouldn't worry too much about the knuckle centering tool right now. It sounds like you need to get your knuckle bearing preload set right, and reading through your posts, I'm about 99% sure it's not right.

Eric,

Get yourself a fish scale and set the pre-load on your knuckles. I believe it is between 3-5 lbs. of pull on the scale, off the steering arms. Make sure when you do it, you have the felt and rubber wipers off the backside of the knuckle. If you don't you may end up with false readings.
