I have the Slee Rear bumper and tire carrier. Great bumper. Slee also makes a bracket to move the camera to the tire to get a better view.

I liked the under the rear hatch lip location.

So I decided to move it along the lip to get a better view. I knew it wouldn't be completly clear, but much better.

Problem is I forgot to take a before picture, but suffice to say that at least half the view was covered by the tire

I could have used a jig saw, but I thought it would be cleaner to use a hole saw. I drilled two holes over lapping and then bent the middle lips in to provide room for the back bracket

I then re-routed the connector, drilled holes and screwed it down.

I then cut a piece of metal to cover the previous install hole and glued it on. Once it's dry, I'll tape up around it and hit it with paint

The view is not so bad anymore

Nice work. Very clean. Thanks for pointing out that Slee has a bracket. I wasn't aware if that. Here's mine from the other thread for comparison. Similar if not the same tire size.

Thanks Jon. I made them about the same size for a better comparison

Now instead of the tire being in front, your catching the side of it. I may have been able to move it over another inch, but I am happy with the result

Yeah where mine sits is worthless for everything but hooking up a trailer.

Pretty sure I told you about it when you got your bumper :flipoff2:

Nice relocate Romer, just hope you dont get a swingout ladder with the rotopax. All that hard work would go to waste.

Thanks

Not going to be an issue. I have no desire for a ladder swingout

Romer, great post. How many inches did you move the camera to where you have it? Was there enough cable length to shift it another inch as you suggest?

Looking at it more closeley, probably moved it about as far as it could go, maybe could tweak a bit more. The harness was tight and I had to use a razor to seperate it from the other harness bundle. It was just cutting tape, it was still in its protective tubing

Looks like I moved it about 9.5 inches and the piece of metal I cut,. glued, sealed and painted looks pretty good over what was the old mounting hole

What type of fasteners did you use to remount the camera at its new location?

I'm thinking of going this route myself...

I used washers and metal screws and drilled holes for the metal scews. I layerd two washers of different sizes to make sure I covered the hole

Thanks to Romer's great pics and ideas above, I followed suite and am quite happy with the results. Here are a couple of pictures of the install.

And here are the most important ones (the results.)

You can track in the pictures the location of the blue boot and sneaker. They are stationary for all the photos so that you can get a sense for what is now visible from the rear-view camera.

My only negative observation on the mod so far is that the drivers side reversing light creates significant interference/flare with the camera at night. I think I will just remove the bulb, or try to create some type of a shield to try to block the light pointing into the camera (on the screen shot, you can see the reversing light on the left/bottom edge of the image)--I was planning on installing a separate reversing light in any case, so this should be fine.

Note: That's a 285/75R18 GY MT/T tire on the carrier (full 35" tire)

Glad it worked for you. Interesting as it looks like we located them the same, but I don't have the light in my bottom left corner view as you do

Now I see, thats a feature of the LX. I don't have a light there

Someone should make a nice clean kit and market it...for those of us too lazy or to busy to do it ourselves. Both of these look great.

realy not much to a kit, some screws washers and whatever you want to use to cover the old hole
