1987 Toyota Landcruiser 2H (6 cylinder diesel engine), Automatic Transmission, Left hand drive, Gun-metal blue, $6,750.00
Current CA registration, truck is in Ventura CA
290,000 km/174,000 mi.
2.5’ lift with Old Man Emu shocks/springs
Heavy-duty bars of steel for bumpers…

I bought this wanting to learn more about diesels and it has definitely enlightened me. I love this truck, but it belongs with someone who wants to 4-wheel. I am selling because I found a turbo diesel vanagon-I want something a bit more comfortable for traveling.

The good: There is a lot of love put into it in the past year (see recent work history below). No rust on the frame at all. Interior is pretty good. 4-wheel drive works great. These engines will never stop running.

The bad: It has some body rust in the usual spots for a Landcruiser. (Along the running board area, door wells). The rest of the body is in pretty decent shape-some chips in the paint here and there. Not awesome gas mileage for a diesel (14ish), probably due to the automatic transmission. Transmission has a slip between 2 and 3 but is not noticeable with a recent fluid flush. Man-A-Fre recommends replacing. You could swap in another Auto, or convert it to a nice H55 manual to get better power and economy. Dash board lights are pretty dim. See a post below with a slideshow of some of the rust areas.

This thing will NOT WIN ANY RACES, but it probably wouldn’t break down in one either…

Paperwork available on the following, all done in the last 5,000 kms:
New Frame, motor and body mounts
Brake master cylinder, new front rotors/pads, new brake lines

DONE BY MAN-A-FRE in Simi Valley:

Recent brake system flush and fluid replacement
Recent flush of transmission with filter and gasket replacements

Misc:

Another Cigarette lighter power source wired into the console
Owner’s manual
Gregory Manual
Full 2H/12H-T Engine manual (in a binder with paper sleeves-NICE BOOK!)
A couple original oil filters (not easy to find)

Top side looks good, got pics of the rusty areas?? Thought these got good MPG, is that standard for this model?

Thought these got good MPG, is that standard for this model?

The slushbox won't help mileage and high speed make them thirsty too. On my BJ60 I can do 25mpg if I take it easy and keep the engine speed down to around 2000 rpm.

Amazing deal for an amazing rig. If my budget had not been slashed by a couple grand by an emergency plumbing adventure on the house, I would already be on my way to Ventura to pick this thing up. I'm only about 30 miles south of you. If its still available after christmas, I may have the funds built back up.

Good luck with the sale!

Hi,

I'll try to get some better pics of the rusty areas. This engine can take a turbo, but the best thing for it right now would probably be a 5-speed manual tansmission. According to Man-a-Fre they can install one for about $3000.00 total. If you are handy you can buy one from them and do it yourself. They are on sale for about $1300 right now.

saw your CL ad for the last week and i've been trying to hold myself back from contacting you. now're youre on here. i cant hide! will be on my way up from LA to San Jose this Thursday. if you're free, might swing by to sneak a peak. will PM you my contact info.

Nice rig. I must admit I am still a little confused regarding the poor mileage, are you sure you measured correctly?

Here are photos of the bad parts...

Being from the Midwest I'm a bit less sensitive to rust, but I understand if some of you are scared away.

For those of you who desire a mint condition cruiser, this isn't the one-yet...

if you want a solid frame, rebuilt axles, good suspension and a diesel engine already registered in Cali for a body swap this may be up your alley.

If you are looking for something to rally without having to worry about it then this is your beast right now...

Don't be afraid to make an offer...

went and test drove it today, very accurately described the +'s & -'s of the cruiser. if i new how to weld or had a donor body on site i would all over this, the cruiser has very good "bones" and he sounded like he really like to move this.

weekend bump to the top

from what i saw just minor rust bubbles mostly around wheel wells and various places around body doors and about foot long section on both rocker panels like he said frame is great condition

Nice rig,
I know this has been asked before, but was the mpg really in the 14s? Is this going 80mph, or all stop and go city driving? Or thats just what it is with the auto? Thanks!

It's mixed driving. Considering the tired auto tranny, being lifted, and non-turbo it seems to me that 14 is reasonable. According to a couple mechanics the engine is solid, and it has relatively low mileage. I am going to swap out the filters (racor and fuel) and clock it again. I'll let you all know the outcome...

Any update with MPG yet? Thanks!
