For Sale or Trade 78' Fj40
Im interested in trading my 78 Fj40 straight across for an Fj80. Its hard to sell anything these days with the current economy, so it might be easier to trade. I have wanted an 80 for a while now but am cash poor.I have a new baby coming in a few days and need something a little more practical. Being a huge cruiser fan I have always liked the Fj80 body style. When I started looking at them I realised that many are the same dollar value as the classic FJ40 that I have. So I am looking for someone who would trade their 80 straight across for my 40. Pinkslip for pinkslip. I would much prefer one with diff locks and a third row. Beyond that I am not real picky as long as it is in working condition. Will consider selling for $5,500 if I cant find a good trade.
Here is a detailed description of the truck:
It should answer any questions. Bear in mind that the truck is 30 years old, I think that qualifies as an antique in car years. were talking about a daily driver. It has not been restored. Thats why im not claiming $15-30,000 value. When I bought it it had a litany of things that needed to be done to it as most cruisers do. (this is my 4th.) I have slowly chipped away and whittled down the list. lots of little things (too many to mention) like wipers didnt work. Wiper fluid wouldn't spray. (pump motor was corroded and tubing and nozzle were clogged) I know because I got into it and fixed them. I have been throught the truck inside and out. I love landcruisers and have maintained it and upgraded it over the last 3 years.
Its a 1978 So, as you know, that year came with power disc brakes, ambulance doors, updated front doors, lower wipers with hidden wiper motor, and rear vent windows, among other things. The Odometer reads 145,000 Miles. Original 6 cylinder 2F motor. It has been upgraded with a weber 38 carburetor and de-smogged about a year and a half ago. Cap, rotor, plug wires, and a 4 core radiator at the same time. It has the 4 speed tranny. Original 4:11 gears. Clutch Master cylinder, preasure plate, and slave cylinder replaced a year ago. 33" X 12.50 mud terrains with matching full size spare - only about 5,000 miles on them. Satin black rock crawler wheels. Original hard top. OEM Swing out tire carrier. Jeep Wrangler fender flares. Rear has 2" wheel spacers for agressive stance and to offset lift (center of gravity. Any time you go up you also need to go out.) I added the optional Rear heater. Both front and rear heaters were cleaned out and work great. Heater shut off valve in engine bay. Block heater. Wired for towing with 7 pin socket and 2" reciever. Lifted with soft ad-a leaf springs and extended shackles. Replaced seat belts 2 1/2 years ago. Passenger "OH $#!+" handle of my own design with hidden bolts for nice factory look. Window hinge mounted extendable mirrors. (So you can have mirrors with the top on or off, or extend for towing wide loads) 55w Aux. lights with stock headlight switch to match existing knobs. (not yet wired. Need relay to work with OEM switch) 5 1/4" Sony explode speakers. Wired for stereo deck.
I like personally like the style of the older, round turn signals and running lights so I swapped out the bib (AKA front clip) and signals. Signals and running lights were installed new. In my opinion it has the most iconic look combined with the nice late model features (listed above). Engine runs strong even down to 0 RPM but has started to smoke. I Replaced valve guides but it still smoked, so its needs rings. 4 wheel drive tranny and transfer case all work flawless. No noises or whines. It has selectable hubs. It has a little oil drip. Rebuilt U joints. New rear brake cylinders installed a month ago. Parking brake adjusted tight. I have new brake pads for front. (doesnt need changing yet) Also have new tie rods ends that will go with.
Exterior was repainted by previous owner. Obviously with rust, anyone who wanted to restore it would repaint. Exterior paint has faded. Interior is the original Olive brown. Dash paint is still in decent shape. Body has typical landcruiser rust. Rear sill below rear doors is shot. I have purchased a new replacement sill that will go with. The expensive one, stamped, and with bolt holes cut to replicate original. I have a sheet of 16 guage sheet metal that will go with as well to repair the other little spots. I have a set or rust free doors all around that I will include. I also have a couple of rust free fender pieces to replace the spots on the front fenders. I have begun cutting out rust. So really, labor is the main thing left to cure the rust. Besides the sill, there is only one spot the size of a dime in the back that is actually through to the interior. Frame is straight, solid and still has a little factory paint in places.
I put on new door weather stripping last winter. I have front door window weather stripping that will go with. The truck is complete to my knowledge other than I dont have the original Jack and tool set, and the headliner is long gone. (they always fall down eventually) It does have the original floor liner. No power steering. (rare option and I havent done a conversion because I have been waiting to find original toyota parts rather than saginaw) All electrics work except licence plate light It needs replaced. Even the dome light works. I Upgraded inst. cluster to be brighter. Window regulators both work well. comes with barely used Cobra CB radio.
I have personally done or hired all work that the description above shows. No way to remember everything but I think I got most of it. Clean title in hand. I've got another kid coming in a week and need a little more practicality with an FZJ80 until I can figure out how to get another FJ40. Let me know if you have any more questions.
