So my Rocky Road Outfitters sliders for my T4R arrived with one of them having a tab bent. I don't feel like paying UPS $100 each way to get them fixed by RR and broken again on the way back, so I am looking for a local shop to either bend the plate back, or grind out the welds and weld on either the fixed or a new mounting plate.

I don't deal will with the "southern service" mentality to quality and customer service that's common here, but I'd rather not have to drive all the way to MD to get this done.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Iron Pig Off Road

Iron Pig Off Road, Toyota Land Cruiser experts

7 Rodney Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22405 · TOLL-FREE: 1-866-IRON-PIG · LOCAL: (540) 361-7400

Saw them, but that's still quite the drive for me.

and what does that mean?

It seems like whenever I call to ask anyone for a quote or to do anything in VA, they can't be bothered. Heck, the Toyota dealer in Alexandria scoffed when I wanted to see their Trail Edition 4Runner with a "do you really need that?" The place out in Stafford wanted 3k more for their 2010 than anyne else for a 2011.

The typical conversation with places like this is:
"Hi, I saw you sell Nitto tires on your web site. Do you sell Nitto TerraGrapplers in P275/70R17?"

"No."

"Do know anyone that would?"

"No. *click*"

Same questions to places in MD is "we don't sell those, call this shop, they'll sell them." In fact, on place was like, "I'll get them put on the next truck here from the warehouse, come by, see them, buy them if you like." I don't ask for much, but I prefer to deal with an outfit that gives a sh*t. I also hven't had car work done here other than switching tires that I have not had to bring back because of some oversight - like not having the mechanic's greasy handprint on my fender was too much to ask.

May be haul, but that is your best option.

Were are you located?

It will be worth the trip to IPOR.

Excuse me for my southern mentality, but maybe you should stay north of the Potomac. By the way, welcome to mud :flipoff2:

Nicely put Tom. Please don't judge the South by what you find in NOVA.

IPOR is quite a drive, i wouldn't trouble myself with a trip all the way down there.....

I think there are some shops in Manasass that could help you!

Not sure where yo're from, but theres a fab shop out here in winchester that'll do it, I would need to look them up for you since I dont recall the name of the place.. if youre interested in coming out this way.

Can't go wrong with IPOR either way.

If UPS was able to bend a tab it can be bent back after you hit it with a torch and a BFH, a simple couple minute job. Pick up the phone book and call a nearby welding outfit. You could probably straighten it yourself with a Mapp gas torch and a BFH also.

A piece of advice. The regionalism thing is not going to win you many friends here.

Though I think it is a communist regime, it should be pointed out that Maryland is south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Post up a pic of the bent tab.

Agreed with the others about NOVA. Its nationwide famous for being high paced and generally rude. I get impatient with people that do not immediately get to the point and waste my time. Just remember that you get What you pay for.

Sorry about the regionalism. 3 continents and 5 countries later of "you'll never be from here, gtfo" gets pretty old though, and I thank those posters here for their heartfelt advice. I realize NOVA isn't the south, which, for the IMHO starts when they stop serving sweetened iced tea when you order just an iced tea.

I'll settle for any place that won't react to my "Hi, I'd like to be your customer and give you my money!" with an "I hate you" and should they pass that test, not jack up the work order (because they hate their customers). I realize it's too much to ask most of the time, but it really would be nice.

I am open to suggestions on how I could improve the tire questions above to get a better response, you know, to get more to the point as you put it. Honestly.

I think that wherever you live, it is just a matter of finding the right shop. As mentioned above, a lot of members have had great work done at Iron Pig Off Road in Fredericksburg. They deal mainly with Cruisers. Convenience Car Care in Manassas is honest and has treated the Cruiser community well. Waterloo Motors in Warrenton deals with imports and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

An excellent list, thank you.

Hi, I do welding and fabrication. I live close to Dulles but Im at Virginia Tech until May. If you can wait until then or any other Mudders need a hand PM me.
