I agree with Al on the 4WD choice. Most of the places we go to wheel have dirt/grass parking. I have seen too many 2WD tow rigs stuck. Also having a 4WD tow rig will help here on the farm when dropping off hay etc.. I would go stock height.

For me a Dodge Cummins 12 valve would be preffered with a 6 speed manual.

What a giving husband! ;)

and secondly - who sells this awesome setup?

that is ridiculously awesome on a whole different level. Never seen one of those at the dealership.

99-newer superduty dually. 4wd but very low stance. 12valve cummins to zf6 manual(or nv5600). KING RANCH.........duh!
4-door
long bed with extra deep tool box and head-ache rack
custom flatbed with wooden sides
no stacks, at all!
factory 20s with low profile long range michelins....

Those freighliner 5th wheel/toy hauler combos roam the Socal freeways.....not the easiest things to get gas with... used to hate to be stuck behind those at the pump.

But I was thinking more along the lines of something you could do now or in a few years realistically :beer:

I wonder if I could mortgage a setup like that. Totally worth it! And did anybody else notice the mercedes grill on the crawler? Maybe bluetec diesel powered.

I agree with Al on the late 80's GM body and Cummins / NV drivetrain, but I'd skip the 4wd and go for a 2wd, slammed stance. I want low to the ground for fuel efficiency ( lower coefficient of drag ) and I've got 4wd in my cruiser, no need for it in a tow rig.

Actually, go with the ultimate in expedition vehicles, get a diesel Burban;)

Had one.... well still have one I guess. Decided it needed too much work to bring up to snuff and couldn't see myself going away from the best expedition vehicle that was ever sold in NA... the 80 series.

I haul a lot of crap so needed a truck bed anyway.

A Western Hauler rear bed is a favorite of mine.

Sad part is my tow rig i have had since 98 is still a great truck for towing with. If only the inside would not be falling apart now like the dash. Which is almost completely gone now.
