Sad part is my tow rig i have had since 98 is still a great truck for towing with. If only the inside would not be falling apart now like the dash. Which is almost completely gone now.

Sounds like a POS. I'll take it off your hands :p

I tow now with a Dodge 2500 with 0ne ton rear suspension 4.10 gears and a 5 speed manual, gas. It has the suspension to handle my wife's big gooseneck horse trailer loaded. The gas is a drag on uphill towing power.

I'll be looking for a simialr year in dually and a diesel, 6 speed manual, 3500 or 4500. I may look for one a bit older with the 12 valve setup, I prefer the newer body style and interior layout. Even with a motor rebuild it won'r run over $18K with new rubber. About a year off or more.

Something like this

I like the freighliner 5th wheel which is not far off from one idea I had. I was thinking the 2008 International Harvester with fith wheel setup.

My original idea was an early 90s Ford 350 dually body and chasis with Cummins 12 valve
4X4
4" lift
35" Interco Narrow SS
Dual Transmissions/Transfer case to create high & low

Just looking thru this thread again...Damn that girl above is ugly.

Besides that I've always wanted to build a truck with two engines. I've seen it done in a 56 ford and it was pretty awesome.

More so I have wanted to create a hot rod with 2 12V cummins.. Making for one hell of a monster. Maybe around 1800HP and 3000 TQ. Putting them side by side would be boring. I'm thinking the likes of an OLD cady but with a 8' hood section. Cruiser along and then when ever you felt like stomping on it just ripping the frame in half.

Practical no....fun as $*&T...YES

Call me crazy, but I have been incredibly happy with my '07 Duramax. Tows Dozer like there's nothing back there, and is super comfy. Outside it looking like 100,000 other trucks on the road, I can't find any reason to want anything different.

except kids :D doh
then two more doors will be nice!

but agreed I dont need some other crazy contraptions but a 2003 7.3 or 05 and newer 6.6 crewcab shortbed gets my vote; single rear wheel. And yes, I realize its not about need.

Al Ill have to try and get a photo but saw your early burb dropped and flat blacked yesterday
no deisel but the optioned out LS1 seemed to make decent power :D

Dragging up an old thread, but I sure thought of it when I saw This Beast

Awful doggone expensive ... one helluvalot more than my Freightliner M2 based RV / Hauler .... but also more offroad capable ..

Awful doggone expensive ..

Says the guy who drives a 200 series :flipoff2:

My vote still goes to a older gm pickup with a Cummins drive train. $10k and done.

I've towed random stuff for hundreds of thousands of miles and my favorite tow vehicle was a busted 77 Suburban 1-ton with a souped up 454. With the usual 8,000 lb trailer behind me, it would fly. Half the body was rusted out, the mpg was terrible but it was comfortable, had great visibility and would not die. There's something to be said for a tow vehicle you don't mind scratching up a little.

Yup .....

And it took me a long time to decide to spend that much on a 4 wheeled vehicle.

Agree on the older rig with a newer drive train ... I just don't see the $300 K for an older pickup. Sure it's a cool sleeper, but come on, 300K !?!

Just giving you a hard time man :D

I agree, that truck above is mighty expensive for just a pickup. I'd never buy one.

07 F250 HD edition with 90K miles.
I custom ordered the truck back in November of 06 and had it delivered to my local dealership when I lived out west. It is the last new truck I will ever buy (that is what I had to tell the wife).

I daily drive my tow rig. For me, the truck has to be very versatile. It needs to get me to work on a daily basis, tow my FJ40 usually across a few states, Take us camping or to the beach, or haul building material when I am working on one of my properties or my house. We also use it the truck when we travel since we are a family of 5. I have driven the truck across country about 10 times which accounts for the high mileage.
It has special edition black Harley Davidson interior which I love. It tows like a tractor and rides like a cadillac, especially now that I have the ICON suspension.

Future mods include:
A TITAN fuel tank that will give me an 800 mile range.
ARB lockers in front and back
aftermarket rear bumper that offers protection and will carry a full size spare.
