Thinking about picking this 1999 landcruiser up for $2000 with 282k miles and a lot of rust. Interior is perfect.
Worth it as a project or run away?

Looks mint, go for it.

If you want a wheeler, why not? 99's came with a locker in the rear. If you want a beater, that's a good price. If you want a daily and want to wash/wax it every weekend, take a hard pass. If you have the room to part it out, I'd bet you could triple your initial investment. It all depends on what you want to do with it.

I could part it out but are the parts really in that high of demand

a lot of the parts people will want because there's are rusted are probably going to be bad on yours.

I will take that for 2k as a donor truck.

I use the "10 cents per mile" equation for general use vehicles. Difficult to apply to new/luxury autos.
If you can drive that truck for 20,000 miles before it spontaneously combusts in your driveway then you got a good deal. Likewise, if you drive it for 10,000 then sell for $1000 you also got good deal.
Don't forget any mandatory maintenance which may be required to keep it running.

This will nickel and dime you until you will hate it and would have invested too much in it to just torch it! It's got rust in places you can't see and a has few high dollar parts that fail at around this age and will easily leave you stranded or worse!

I'd say get it for as low as you can and part it out. You will easily make your money back and then some. You said the interior is perfect, can we see any pics?

I call dibs on left front fender, and left rear quarter panel interior trim!
