Just wanted to post and see what cycling products everyone has had the best luck with. For me I have had great luck with my Shimano 105 setup and Bontrager Hardcase tires. My current rear tire has about 2500 miles on it and still looks great. Zero flats. I own Addidas shoes and jave not had very good luck with them. Straps broke forst season I used them. I bought a semi wntry level Scattante 560 three years ago and really like it. A lot of bang for the buck.

I have always had good luck with Deore XT components. It is a good compromise between price, quality weight. However my newest MTB has a "rapid rise" (reverse spring) rear derailleur. I find myself fiddling with the adjustment of this derailleur too much.
In a side by side comparison, I like the feel of campy road drive train better than shimano. but it is that much more expensive...

Also, a BlackOps seatpost I got from KBCycleworks on the bay. Carbon and Ti construction, at 176g comes in UNDER claimed weight (in 27.2, not sure about the 31.6), and best of all, can be had for under $50. I just picked up my second one this today.

I agree with the function+quality=price. I would really like to go full dura ace but the price is over the top. I am happy with 105's and will likely stick with the 105's unless I run into a can't pass up deal later on...
I think the only big benefit to DA is in the shifters and rear derailleur. The other parts are too much money for minimal performance gain or weight savings to be worth it.
I know one guy who has had decent results racing with the Performance brand Forte drivetrain. He says it's not Dura Ace quality, but for the price it can't be beat.
One place I don't like to skimp is wheels. Holy cow, a nice set of wheels makes a WORLD of difference, mountain or road.

I have to say I'm a huge fan of SRAM roadbike components. Going from Ultegra to SRAM Rival, the SRAM is firm shifting and certainly doesn't feel as smooth as Ultegra, but it's precise, it never misses a shift, never hunts, never falters. It hits every shift every time. And, it practically never needs adjustment. It's lighter too... but it's pretty close.
I've also had pretty good luck with Nashbar Streetwise tires. I have a set of slick 700x35's that I used to use on my MTB for commuter duty. They roll nicely and were super cheap. They lasted pretty well too. The one thing they are susceptible to is the thorns, so I'd go with some Stans if you use them.
Stans is also a big favorite of mine. I always put it in my MTB tires. We end up with a lot of thorns around here and Stans is excellent at both being light weight and doing a great job of handling thorns in tires.

Just found the Cycling portion of this forum and it looks like I can waste even MORE time on MUD now.
I think for road you can't go wrong with 105 and for MTB I tend to stick with SRAM X0. X9 is just as good, but I happen to work in the industry so I get the 'hook up' on a lot of high dollar items.

I have a few Forte parts on mine but nothing of significance,seat, drop bars ect.... Speaking of wheels, what's a decent road set... Most bang for the buck.. I have stock wheels on mine and though they have proven to be durable they have not proven to be efficient. I have heard good things about the Easton road set. If I remember they run around $350 which seems like a great price if they cut the mustard! I am fond of Bontrager components. Do they sell a decent wheel that I won't have to buy on credit

I have had good luck with my 105 equipped road bike. It shifts very well with a Dura Ace chain.
I am a huge tubeless convert, road and MTB. After trying a few sealants, I have the best luck with Stan's.

Any suggestions on a good road seat? Mine's like sitting on a cinder block after 40 miles...
I have a Ritchey Pro Streem that I'm pretty happy with. It's an inexpensive one, but it works for me. Took a few rides to get my buns adjusted, but now it's pretty comfortable.
Saddles are pretty personal items. Finding one that fits your taint can be trying. I love the San Marco Concor Light and Specialized Toupe 143. One friend swears by WTB saddles, another loves his Fizik seats.

I currently have a stoxk forte seat. It is a decent seat up to 40 miles then it really starts to agitate the ole bum. I do really like Performance Bike brand riding gear though. You get a lot of quality for not much coin. I am on mythird season with my shorts and although they show some serious signs of wear I still use them and the padding is still decent

Took the "Roadie" to the shop yesterday for an after due service. Had the wheels trued, rear hub work and new chain. Ended up with a SRAM chain. Never used SRAM products before but have heard great things. Had a 105 chain previous and didn't have much luck. First 105 component I have owned that hasn't exceeded my expectations. I'll keep you posted on it's performance.
I have have yet to use anything that consistently shifts better than XTR, IMO. It's a tried and true thing for me. SRAM XX is tempting as I am looking to build a Ti 29er, but would hate to spend the coin and have to futz with it all the time other than maintenance. Oh, and anything Chris King !

i've had the same great shimano xtr components for years. they have taken a beating for years and still work like a charm. my ultegra grupo has been just as loyal. as for clothing and shoes, i've bashed diadora mtn shoes and shimano road shoe for years
