Sorry for so many, I will be glad to impart any wisdom as I get it as a pay back.

I have an '87 FJ60. All new California smog and new carb. At 2,000 to 2500 RPM's there is a slight hitch when it runs about every 15 seconds. I replaced the fuel filter so that is not the issue. The mileage has not changed. Other than this the rig runs great even at 240,000 miles on the engine. Any suggestions as to what to check next?

Thanks in advance.

could you clarify what the issue is??? is it a stumble, power loss, etc... does it occur in one gear or all gears???

Sorry.

It's a stumble that occurs in all gears at the same RPM.

On edit.

One more thing.

When I open the gas cap I get a huge rush of the vacuum filling, yet it does the same thing with the cap on or off.

Probably a fuel delivery issue - a vaccum is forming in the gas tank and impeding the fuel flow. Try running without the gas cap and see if it clears up. Try a new vented gas cap. Possibly something clogged in the tank venting, to the charcoal canister possibly?

Thanks for the tips. I will check it out.
