Thanks to all the input from the board, I finally pulled the trigger on an '01 with 89K miles for $23K and picked it up a few hours ago...

Next, need an OME lift, 32" or 33" tires, bumpers, etc. Here I go down the slippery slope already...

Hmmm, you just made me realize that all of my vehicles have 4WD, even my 993 and wife's mall-cruisin' X5.

But I guess now I can truly say that I have a REAL 4x4. Well OK, it will be after I lift it a few inches, put some 'real' tires on it, replace the side steps with sliders, slap on the ARB, TJM or Slee bumpers, lock the rear and take it for some trips through Moab and Rubicon...
