Installed the radio in the center console, the head on a RAM mount in front of the ashtray slot and a Kenwood KES-3 speaker in the overhead. A couple of shots...

Nice clean instal. I mounted my HF radio TS 480 in a similar location. Nice location for the speaker. My 2m 440 is mounted up by the sun roof controls.

Looks pretty similar to what i did - i mounted mine the actual ash tray so I could slide it out easily for use at the back of the rig or anti-theft.

Is that Kenwood speaker Stereo? You would need that for the 350AR. I ran the audio out of mine into the Pioneer AV input on my stereo.

Wish I'd seen your thread first. I would have pinged you. I planned to put it up where the speaker is at first but couldn't make that happen in a way that was convenient and flexible.

I went the ashtray mount with a bracket method, but didn't have any adjustability and I'm not always the driver. Then discovered I had a RAM mount from a handheld GPS that worked perfectly and the head is still very easy to remove and stash.

I didn't wire into the stock HU through the PA15-TOY adapter input because I have to then monitor only the radio and can't have it on in the background while listening to music. I didn't think I would miss the dual-band monitoring with a stereo setup but it may turn out that I'm wrong.

Wish there was a way to have both the internal/head speakers and line-out live at the same time.

The line out overrides the FTM350's "brain" speaker not the remote face speakers.

You can have the speakers in the remote face on at the same time as the line out audio (to stereo). I just pick a music source and the 2way traffic continues in the remotes speakers and audio plays what ever source I select.

I mounted my brain unit in the factory jack location - I can bring the remote face back to the brain and have the ham at the tailgate for base camp ops.

Hmmm. Didn't realize that, I thought I'd tried all the audio settings. I'll have to give that a shot. I can just run some RCAs to the input adapter on the HU and use the Aux input on the USASpec adapter.

BTW thanks for the wiring schematic on using the Whelen lamps in the hatch and triggering with the courtesy switch. That's on the list now. Why does that list never get shorter? :flipoff2:
