I ran mine inside the cab centered on the dash. No issues so far.

Mine is pretty much in the exact same spot. I would NOT put it direct to the exterior body. The PO of my Daily Driver had an aftermarket Sat Radio set up with this same style antenna mounted on the roof of the car. When I removed it the area under it was totally scratched up. Just from normal day to day driving. I would move that back into the interior. Just my $.02.
