Hey guys and gals,

Ok im just throwing this out there to see if anyone is interested - I figure Ive been bitten by the toyota bug, perhaps someone the VW bug (no pun intended!)

I have a one of a kind 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup truck that I would like to trade for either an FJ60 or 80 series that has a Diesel conversion done.

I figure with the slow economy and everyones wallets a little lighter than usual perhaps someone would be interested in a trade for this.

I have close to $11,000 invested in this truck and built it to take to shows and use as a daily driver that I could enjoy everyday.

Well my family is growing and ive decided I would like something bigger.

Here are the specs:

1981 VW Pickup truck
1997 VW Passat 1.9 TURBO Diesel motor - 15k from new crate engine
5 speed transmission
Custom fabricated 2.25" full exhaust
New paint Original LE3C Royal Red March 2009 - wet sanded and buffed to a mirror finish
Custom Vinyl and suede suede Black on Black upholstery
New headliner
New Carpet
Full dash swap from a 1989 VW Cabriolet
VW Cabriolet remote mirrors
VW Cabriolet door handles
Black powder coated and tinted rear sliding window
Black Painted front grill
Halogen Headlights
New Tail lights
Original Duraliner bed-liner (impossible to find)
16" Wheels with polished lip
New brakes all around (pads, drums, springs, shoes, e-brake cable - the works)
New front and rear window seals
New door seals

45mpg with pleanty of power and torque.

This motor was designed for a vehicle twice its weight so it really moves!!

Thats all I can remember off hand.
She won 1st place at Bugapaluza 2009 for 'Best in Class' which I was very proud of.
So like I said im not desperate to get rid of her, I would just like to see whats out there and who might be interested.
Email me with what you have and we can go from there.
My email is: ukaviator@gmail.com

Here are some pics, i'll get some more if wanted.
I can provide pictures of the full build if anyones interested.
Thanks

Forgot to mention it just recently had a brand new Bosch starter motor installed and I used a rubberized undercoating on the inside of all the arches.

That is sweet, and it's probably quick with the TDI. Prepare to go very slow in the Cruiser you trade it for.

LOL! Thanks for the replies.

Yeah this motor just keeps pulling its crazy - its definitely got more go to it than my 2003 TDI Jetta!

Do you know anyone with a diesel FJ80 or FJ60 they may want to part with?

I may go for a gas FJ60 and get the conversion done myself but it would have to be the right one :p

Very nice....wish I could justify it!
My DD is '01 Jetta TDI and I love this car 42/50mpg. Traded my built 62 for it.

Where you located?

Im in Nashville, TN

Nice ride. I revived two of those last summer. Nothing to that extent.

Hmm...that would make a nice friend for rumford.

I'm not sure if I would really do it, but I have a 60 (not diesel, but gas or propane)....and a GTI

Nice 60!

Hey Im digging that FJ60 - very nice!
If only it had a diesel :frown:
I might be interested though, send me some specs on it.

Nice looking Rabbit you have there, very clean indeed!

For all you guys reading this ad, thanks for all the positive comments about the truck. She really has been a labor of love and gets comments everywhere it goes.
I may also be interested in a 4runner diesel trade if anyone has one of those they are looking to part with, but i think i would prefer the FJ60/80.

Thanks!

Hey Ukaviator,

It's a 1987 60 with about 220k miles on it. Engineer owned and maintained for most of its life.

Here's the list of stuff that I've done:

Suspension: OME Heavy/ Heavy with Shocks & Shackles

Engine: @208k New pistons, rings, wrist pins, rod bearings, valves (no more burning oil) ,150psi in all cylinders.. new oil pan, new Radiator, thermostat etc..

Exhaust: Desmogged with Header and custom exhaust

Carb: Currently running Weber 38/38 DGAS

Front End: Knuckle rebuild with new bearings, gaskets, marlin seals, new brake pads, CCOT Steering damper

Steering: New power steering fluid cooler. Factory cooling lines rusted and broke during the last long trip we did.

Tires: BFG A/T's 33x10.5x15. Quiet

Front Bumper: Custom Home made...that was a fun project

Winch: Ramsey 8000lb.

Propane: Full setup to run propane when gas prices are high, requires a carb change (<1hr to do). Very low emissions, slightly less power, 1% loss in mileage, half the price of gas.

Rear End: It needs some work. I have a set of 4.11 diffs that are about to go into both axels. I have wheel bearings, seals and drum pads to go into the rear.

Frame: Had some rusty sections which I cut out and welded in new pieces.

Body: Doors and rocker panels have some rust spots.

Front Seats: Nissan bucket seats installed which are way more comfortable for those long trips.

Cargo Area: I installed some E-Clip tie down connections in several areas, removed the carpet and installed a rubber mat.

I replaced the cracked windshield when I first got it as well as the drivers window mechanism which was broken.

Just got back from a little canoe trip!
