I would look into a tank type heater. They are usually higher wattage and install in the heater lines and block drain in some cases. They heat by convection.
Most farm/tractor stores have them.

I don't remember the exact cost, but I was shocked at how cheap it was from the dealer. Of course when I bought my truck it was already -40, so I did get hooped on the install costs. But I wasn't lying on my back in that weather! :)

But IIRC the heater itself was only like $30 from Mr T. That's worked so far for the last year, and we can get down to -30 for a week or so at a time.
 
I just gave my local dealer a call, they were able to find one under the lx 450 (which was actually sold up here in canada, vs the LC which wasn't brought up here as an 80).

The p/n he told me was C014000134S2 with a cost of $48 CAD.
