How soon do you need it? I'm sure I can get you a piece that small for little more than shipping but not until I return to IN in about 4 weeks.

metals depot sells it in a 2' length for 180.00 + Shipping. How bad do you want it?
Yikes, not that bad! Hard to find this in small quantities. Thanks tho Rick.

Ideally, before the weekend. But if I cannot locate any I may take you up on that. Thanks Nick.

I may have some, Ill take a look around, not sure if I have a full foot or not, I choped a section out of the side for the trany/ebrake tunnel on my 72.

try a well driller, they may have some scraps

It's for the 40. Trying to fab enclosures for waterproof speakers for some half doors.

PVC is a good idea, hmmm. Certainly MUCH lighter than the 9" diameter pipe I'm using. Tried using a chop saw as well as the plasma to cut 3" wide sections, but those attempts didn't go so hot. Hard to get perfect cuts without the right equipment. I really need access to a 12" or larger band saw. You got me thinking on the PVC, maybe a trip to Home Depot to look at materials is in order :hhmm:. Can you paint PVC?

Not using Dickason's book for these enclosures as I'm limited by space and esthetics. Using 6.5" Pioneer marine speakers in the doors, backed up by two 8" subs in matched enclosures behind the seats.

Yes, you can paint PVC. If you use that new Fusion plastic paint I'd bet it will work even better. Definitely find something else other than metal pipe (unless you wanna use metal ductwork like for home heating and A/C). Ductwork pipe might work well with a couple layers of your favorite Dynomat...

Speaker enclosures

Well, that shoots the stuff I had in mind, it would weigh more than the DOOR!
How about fiberglass? I have been playing with this stuff alot recently, :highhippie: and its a blast to build stuff out of, and its easy to form up and rugged as hell!

I've wanted to try messin' around with fiberglass for a while. Where do you get your supplies? What have you made with it?

I found a solution which should work...6"x6"x3" light boxes for truck/trailer lights. Will hold a 5.25" or 6.5" speaker with small spacer. Just a tad lighter than the 3/8" steel rings I was trying to make .

I have fixed my boat with it. there is definitely a knack to it. I learned the hard way, but its like welding if you dont like it strap on the mask and grind it away! I get my stuff at the local boat yard, if you bring your own milk jugs you can buy resin and cloth in bulk.

The Mako build pictures.

I worked with fiber glass alot when I was highschool and college. I find the easy of use of the West Marine pump system awsome makes for proper mixtures every time. I bought there system and the proper containers then for refills I get it by bulk from local boat yards. cloth as well but West marine has a good selction of stuff to get started. there cloth is somewhat expensive but works well.

fiber glass is fun stuff smelly and sticky but fun. done right it is wicked strong
