What kind of wrenching is expected at a function like this?

I need to do a FR and RR axle service (amongst other things, like a PS pump rebuild and cooling system overhaul), would that type of work be acceptable?

Hmmm... maybe I'll leave that for another time. Trying to think what else I could do there, any suggestions?

onboard air and possibly an onboard welder.
Now that's what I'm talkin about, killer stuff there, especially the onboard welder idea.

Any ideas where this will be. I'd love to give a hand. I don't have any projects of my own but am itching to get out in the garage. :bounce:

Go ahead and do your Birfs. The most time consuming aspects of that job is the cleaning, which will go much faster with the parts washer at Chris' shop. You could it done in probbaly half the time it might take you at home. If you plan on a couple of days you could probably get something else done too.

KC,
What is your cooling system overhall going to consist of?Is it running hot? Is a power steering pump rebuildable or are you just going to replace it with a rebuilt unit?. If you come out and join Charlie and I you could work on any of your projects. As far as rebuilding your t-case you would only need bearings, gaskets, and seals. Some poeple just like to rebuild while the parts are out. 200k and 12 years, its' just something to think about, I doubt if it would ever strand you without giving you warning. Matt, Saturday 2-25 Drooling Charlie and I are going to put a lift on little Red.(providing Charlie doesn't get afraid of heights between now and then) If your looking to get greasy we'll be doin that in the belton area and you are more than welcome to join us!

All my cooling system overhaul is just a flush and replacing of the firewall heater hoses (FHH, which is essentially done, I just need to put them back on), the PHH, thermostat, and water pump. Its not running hot, but I was advised to replace those items as preventative maintenance. Plus some of the heater hoses were/are weeping a bit.

The PS pump is rebuildable, and I already have the kit, but it seems like it might be a big mess. Not sure if I want to sell the kit and get a new pump from CDan or not, sure would be a lot easier.

I guess I'll plan on doing my birfs at Chris's shop, seems like it will be a bit less painful.

PS, I used to live in Emporia, went to Village Elemantary School and lived on Loma Vista in the Coronado addition.

Andrew, I did this to my '80 3 weeks ago--still fresh in my head.

I am going to try to make it to the wrenching weekend too. With any luck I will have already finished my project before then, but would like to help out where I can - axle rebuilds are my speciality, that is I've done it twice. I could also take photos for future newsletter use (or calendar 2007 fun).

Good idea changing out rubber hoses. The pump probably isn't that big of a deal if you have a kit for it. Lets try it since you don't have to drive it every day. The shops already a big mess so you can't mess the place up. Worst come to worst we'll put it back together and you can trade it in on a rebuilt.

Hey Smashed Choo Choo,
I have some questions
1.Do you want to measure your 40 for roll cage extension at the wrenching weekend?
2. Do you want to do inspections for vehicles in one short bay.
3. Do you know of any tube projects being done that weekend.
4 Wht's your email adress?

I was planning to do some measuring this weekend, but 18F + no heat means I'll be working in the basement.

Inspections wouldn't be a problem. I should be able to get 3 bays opened up by then.

I would like to work on the roll cage in my 40 as the welder/air/alternator I can put in myself.

I'll send it to you - damn spammers...

Chris, I just ordered software yesterday for tube design. It should be in Sat or Mon. We can use you roll cage as a first project. It looks pretty cool and should save time and $$$$ by not wasting material.

So, does that mean you don't have to stay up all night to finish it? :D

you guys think if i brought the pig down you could look at my power steering pump...leaks and appears to be slighty out of alignment with the other pully...
