Well kids,
It looks like I'm gonna miss the wrench weekend this year, Unless I want to drive in from Benton, Luisiana. The company I'm working for has a job thats got some pretty major problems on it and I get to go straighten things out. looks like 2 to 4 weeks. Did I say get to? Yuk. oh well

Guys,

Please tell me how you guys run your wrenching weekends? Do you work on one guys truck or everyone shows up and you help each other? Or possibly something in between.

How long does it last?
Where do you hold it?
Etc.....

We would like to do something like this with our club and are looking for ideas.

I have access to a 3 + bay shop. These started out small with a few trucks and have been getting bigger. We typically have a few experienced guys helping those just getting into DIY to help with a project they might have. Usually start on Saturday morning and end Sunday afternoon. Last year a couple of guys worked all night Saturday on a front bumper for a mini-truck - I made it until 11:30. Our work has included front axle rebuilds, header installs, locker installs, head gasket replacement - basically project that can be completed in a day or less.

If you've read the rest of the thread, you'll see that we don't typically have a set list of things to do.

Also - Rising Sun has an annual birfield repacking party.

HTH.

Who will be down (or up) this weekend?

And what would you like to work on?

For me - GM alternator and possibly York install, rear seats, roll cage thoughts/possibly bending/welding.
I will be there

I'd like to do my birfs. Maybe do my shocks if there's going to be air tools (unless that's too much to ask, then I won't worry about it).

I think I can get everything else done at my own "shop" (read: garage).

It's easy to stay up all night when Erik's around to entertain you by setting himself on fire. :D

I plan on being there. Not sure what I'm doing yet. If I get the diffs back in the mini, I may bring it down to do the sliders and mount the ARB compressor.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so crass with that comment - just noting the obvious that we don't specifically plan what to do. More like a "if you have a project, come on over and do it in front of a bunch of guys that'll make fun of you".

Oh, BTW - my first LC wheeling, and wheeling in particular, was with the GA Cruisers at GSMTR '99.

Mike, About a month ago, my son-in-law was pricing DOM tubing here in Topeka, and 2 X .120 was going for about 3.86 /ft. Pretty high priced, but they also said with the price of steel fluctuating, it could be higher by the time he called back. If you're interested, I could have him check on prices again.

Well it doesn't look like I will be making it this weekend. I was all set to finally put the front axle together. Then Caroline informs me she had already made plans to go out with her girlfriends...sooo I will be wrenching at a Satellite location (my garage).

I'll pick up the 3rd Saturday morning and will start assembling the front axle after I put Alex to bed.

How about I call you guys and put you on speaker phone...that way it will seem like I'm there.

Actually, anyone want to offer up their cell # as my very own help desk for my axle rebuild.

Chris,

I am planning on heading down early Saturday morning. I will be bringing the 80 and hope to do cap, rotor, plugs, and belts. And if time/ space allows, add a 12 volt outlet to the rear cargo area.
