You did not spare any expense on Tencha building it up after the roof came off. Don't mess with a vital component of the vehicle like steering or brakes when it come to what you need.

So your recomendation it's just buy this PSC pump close eyes .?

I still wait ( and thought it will never arrive ) the size specs of this pump ..

they also have this one ..

(SP-1305) '80-'06 Standard P Pump w/ Steel Reservoir Can [SP-1305] - $130.00 : PSC Motorsports, Off-Road Steering Experts

SP-1400-sm_LRG.jpg

just hard to decide with a web image and no real vision of the space that the pumps needs ..

SP-1500AS-Side-sm_LRG.jpg

what means RH feed . ? just the side/place of the inlet tube ?

Another info .. from more testing in Tencha it looks even more close to the steering lock ( full steering wheel to one side or other ) more the resistance that I feel to get back the steering wheel to the center ..

For those whith ram assist and P pumps .. how much caster you have ?

I'm around 2.3 - 2.4° in both sides

yep your right D'Animal,

Those single acting rams dont have the same active force on extend and compress.

This is because the ROD takes up some of the area on the piston in the compress side, the more the area the more the force.

Your issues seem to be stemming from a supply issue, you seem to be having the most of your issues when u are coming back from one way to the other fast.

You are actually creating a momentary vacuum on the other side as the actuation side is trying to get that extra oil.

You need a larger oil resiviour.

yes .. more I turn the wheels more worse the "issue .. "

With the same pump .. ?

An a huge oil cooler witll help with this " vaccum " or it must be in the reservoir ..

Actually my oil cooler its more high than my reservoir .. it can be taken in the ecuation ?

I have plans to modify my pump this sat .. hope it helps .. ( nothing to loose now )

One question for experts ..

the pre 85 steering box have any performance ( about hyd assist ) with the newer post 85 . .?

you've prolly already figured this out but you def. do not want any componant of the system (even the remote cooler) higher than the reservoir

just learned through this threads .. I will work in my pump this weekend, and will try to make a bigger reservoir joining 2 factory Toyota ones ..

Nope...

thanks .. if all 60 series box are the same .. are the IFS diferent in terms of performance with or without Hydro assist . ?

Well .. update for my Saga ..

Sat was a nice day here ( luck and no rain ) so have chance to do few tests .. source a couple of old pumps ( saguinaw and others ) and pull couple of fitting and flow piston asemblys ..

Here are my stock TC type pump and the other that I finally use ..

main.php

The stup it's little diferent .. at the end do the same job but with other technique.

At the same tipe change the TC typo of fitting conector for a normal flare .. and now need to change my 90 fitting for a female - male fitting ..

Here is my sotck fitting .. I drill it silghy bigger .. and found a better performance, but was in this time when I decide go and try another formula ..

main.php

The winner come from this pump ( no idea where it comes .. but it's huge ) it's the lower setup in the first pic ..

main.php

then Move my PS cooler a bit lower .. so it will be lower than my reservoir .. and duplicate my reservoir.

main.php

use the reservoir from another ( Corolla I think ) pump that I had at home .. sure not the best welding skills but it do the job ..

main.php

Now the final report ..

I'm pretty close to the perfection .. when I said perfection, it's recover the speed that I had in my steering prior the ram assist ..

Now it's pretty close and I'm pretty happy .. :bounce:

I need to take care of the heat issue .. coz now with the new ( not ported ) fitting from the old pump, I got much more flow with good perssure ..

And about pressure .. I have those springs .. the smaller one it's the stock one that come with my TC pump .. and the bigger one I souce from another Saguinaw tipe ( P pump )

main.php

I'm running same size as stcok spring right now .. but I'm pretty tempted to upgrade ( this sat ) to this longer spring along with some ported to the main pressure fitting ..

Looking for a bigger oil cooler coz now my oil it's getting really hotter .. and lose some performance when I'm forcing the pump for a long while due to the oil temp ..

all comments are appreciated ..

To close this thread ( for now at least ) I open my PS again abd drop the complete piston valve asembly .. swap the longer spring and ported the flow valve ..

main.php

the steering was a dream ... was way more soft and smoth than my 80 steering or any other steering that I shoud drive before ..

main.php

Then after a test run .. notice that my Oil was little more hotter .. my laser temp was reading 138°F at the reservoir ..

main.php

I was just ready to say " I'm the best :D " when my PS box " pop " the top o ring !

So decide was way too much pressure ..

drop the PS piston and valve assembly .. run again the smaller spring, and let the ported valve on it ..

then drop the box ..

main.php

replace the o ring but have a question ..

The top center part of the box .. that one around the adjust bolt .. how it's sealed to the outside ?

Just the tiny gasket on the base of the nut ( when you already put the cap of the box there is a rubber washer between the run and the box cap )

main.php

now it's working pretty good .. when you are driving it's pretty delicate or sensitive dow to the pressure ..

But a pleasure to drive and steer ..

The washer with a rubber inner is the deal on the adjustment bolt.

The washer with a rubber inner is the deal on the adjustment bolt.

I just put the PS box cap, add tiny layer of silicone, the washer, another tiny layer of silicone the nut and tight ..

that's ok .?

Edit: maybe it's a good idea replace this " rubber " washer ..

Depends on how much you are going to adjust it.

The aluminum part of the washer does most of the sealing.

Maybe I put 40lb/in on it ..

I would see if can andle the new pump flow and pressure .. but was seen orbital valves and feel curiosity on how it would perform on my Tencha ..

Well after a rest for my off road event here .. I'm back in the Cruiser dutys .. and since I'm persistent here are some improvements ..

new stuff .. reservoir and cooler .. ( reservoir it's huge 9" X 3.5" )

main.php

made modify brakets and attach it at front ..

main.php

make mod the AC drier bracket .. to my new reservoir .. now re thinking the position, it's nice almost over the PS pump .. but my concern come from the fact that it's close to the Rad .. ( more heat transfer ) I will take new measurements with my laser temp to be sure ..

main.php

new place for my drier and the return line to the res ..

main.php

both ladys ..

main.php

My notes:

1. I put almost 2 bottles ( STP ) on the system .. but this oil get dark pretty fast ( as soon as it runs through the system )

2. Now I can appreciate the flow of the PS .. and I confes . that I was amazed .. impresive to see the amount of fluid that this TC type pump move .. I will take a vid on the weekend ..

3. I feel no lag in the steering .. which it's good .. and it's pretty soft .. even it I run hard over it ..

4. TC pump groans like no other .! suppose that not normal .. maybe due to the smaller puley ?

Now I'm thinking in hydroboost ( smaller one from Mustang for example ) .. I have 80 MC disc all around .. but my vaccump pump maybe it's diying .. and with the hydroboost I will win the chance to use other alt in my 2H since will no need a vacc pump again ..

Comments .. ?

thanks !

David

I am not a huge fam of hydro boost brakes with hydro assist. Too many things relying on a single pump.

got room for another pump?
